Auxiliary Meets
With Mrs. Wood
"Hie September meeting of
the American Legion Auxiliary
was held in the home of
Mrs. Juanita Wood with
Mrs. Sandra Norwood and
Mrs. Edna McCowan as
co-hostesses.
Mrs. Emily Gardner presided
over the meeting with
16 members and two guests
present.
Committee reports were
given. Mrs. Pauline Shaw
reported on the rehabilitation
committee that 50
patients and hospital personnel
were served at the
recent VA picnic.
Mrs. Sandra Norwood
reporting for child welfare
said that her committee
would look into the "adop(tion"
of a foster child for the
unit to help during the
coming year.
Mrs. Juanita Wood reported
that two new members
had joined as a result of the
recent membership drive.
Mrs. Dorothy Roberts
discussed plans for a bake
sale to be held on Sept. 16.
The month's program was
centered on music. The
group was delightfully entertained
by the singing of
Mrs. Edith Moseley accompanied
by J. Hartwell
Gatling. playing the harmonia.
Mr. Gatling also
recited the humorous
rliyme. "It's Bloody War."
the meeting was closed by
an impromptu rendition on
the organ by Mrs. Juanita
Wood.
Retarded Association
Has Meeting Planned
The Warren County Association
for Retarded Citizens
will meet tonight
(Thursday) at 8 p. m. in the
basement of All Saint's
Episcopal Church. The
membership is open to
family and friends of
retarded individuals, professionals
working in this
area or other interested
citizens

Miss Carter Howard Ward of "Cloveroc" in Warrenton
will be among 222 young ladies from across the state
making her formal bow to society on Friday evening,
Sept 9, in the Raleigh Civic Center.
Carter is the daughter of Mrs. Alex S. Watkins, Jr., of
Warrenton. She is a senior at St. Mary's College in
Raleigh At St Mary's she is a hall counselor and senior
warden of the Vestry, the religious committee; a
member of the Sea Saints, a synchronized swimming
team: member of the library committee and the forum
committee.
In the sumriier Carter spends her time lifeguarding
and teaching swimming. She also enjoys tennis and other
outdoor sports.
Carter likes to sew and makes many of her clothes
Her chief marshall for the ball will be her godfather,
Dr. Leon A Adams of Wilson, and her assistant marshall
will be Tom Tray lor of Norlina.
Instructor Attends Meet
Miss Joy Lockhart, codirector
of the Lockhart
School of Dance in Warrenton,
has just returned from
an extensive 10-day dance
session in New York City.
She attended a special
technique dance convention
at the Professional Dance
Teachers Association. The
P.D.T.A. is a national
organization of dedicated
dance teachers who are
interested in the creative
possibilities of the present
and the future and who are
ncerned with improving
mselves as dance teach,
choreographers, as
. siness people, and as
leaders in their community.
Miss Lockhart also attended
two annual dance
workshops of talented, master
teachers, whose newest
ideas, techniques and routines
in dance, will be used
in her studio this fall.
Each day consisted of
eight hours of ballet, tap,
jazz, and modern technique
and dance routines, plus
three hours each evening of
ballroom dance, which also
included the newest disco,
hustle, rope, bus stop and
others for the teenagers and
young adults.
Macon Marine
Gets Promotion
Marine Lance Corporal
Daniel Howard, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Eddie L. Howard
of Route 1, Macon, has been
meritoriously promoted to
his present rank while
serving with 2nd Marine
Division at Camp Lejeune.
He joined the Marine Corps
in October, 1976.
