Judge Charles W. Wilkinson of Oxford presided over the session. Bobby Gene Alexander, John Edward Davis, Robert Branch, Moses Levister and William Shaw each entered pleas of not guilty. All were found guilty of gambling and given a jail sentence of 60 days, suspended for one year on the condition that they not be found guilty of gambling during the suspended period and pay fines of $35 and court costs. The court also ruled that the money confiscated at the time of the arrests be turned over to the Sheriff for the Law Enforcement Officer's Undercover Fund except for $100 which was to be turned over to Moses Levister. Alexander, Davis and Branch gave notices of appeal to the next criminal session of Superior Court and later dropped the appeal, wishing to comply with the judgment. Moses Levister appealed his case to the Superior Court with bond to remain in effect. William Shaw's attorney was granted a motion to dismiss a case of escape and the case was dismissed. Mary Alston of Warren County was granted voluntary dismissal for using profane language. Leroy Broadnax of Henrico, Va., entered a plea of driving under the influence of intoxicants and prayer for judgment was continued for 30 days.
