Mrs. A. J. Hundley was

United Methodist Women's
Circle 2 which met in her
home Monday night.
Mrs. W. S. Hicks gave the
devotions and presided over
the meeting.
Mrs. Fred Hicks gave the
program entitled, "The
Trial of Truth," to the 13
members present.
Plans were made concerning
the revival that is
scheduled to begin October
16.
The group was invited to
Mrs. J. L. Fleming's home
for the October meeting.
Covered Dish
Supper Held
The Norlina Woman's
Club and Junior Woman's
Club held a joint meeting
and covered dish supper at
the Norlina Club House on
Wednesday. September 7.
The meeting was called to
order by the President. Mrs.
Alice Marie Robertson. Mrs.
Alta Davis gave the devotions
and introduced the
guest speaker, Mr. Dennis
Retzlaff, Health Educator
for the Warren County
Health Department.
Plans were made for the
14th District Federation
Meeting which is to be held
at the Norlina Baptist
Church October 18.
The hostesses for the
meeting were Mrs. Angie
Edwards, Mrs. Harriette
Faulkner and Mrs. Irene
Edwards.
Literature Club
Has First Meet
The Norlina Literature
and Music Club met in the
home of Mrs. Lillian Kilian.
Sept. 8. at 3 p m. for the first
meeting of the season.
Mrs. Kilian and Mrs. Boyd
Mavfield. president, were
hostesses to the 14 members
present.
After the business meeting
refreshments were served
and the social hour was
enjoyed by all

Jr., both of Wilson, were
united in marriage during a
double-ring ceremony in the
Fremont Free Wil. Baptist
Church on Sunday, Sept. 11,
at three o'clock.

rendered nuptial selections
on the piano with Tom
Pittman accompanying on
the guitar. Jackie Bass of
Fremont was soloist.
Given in marriage by
Floyd Newsome, the bride
wore a formal gown
featuring venise lace. Her
mid-length veil fell from a
crown of pearls and venice
lace and she carried a
cascading bouquet of mums,
daisies, roses and baby's
breath.
Mrs. Donna Marlowe of
Fremont was maid of honor.
She wore a floor-length
dress of mint green featuring
a sheer mid-length cape
with appliques of blue,
green and yellow. She wore
a blue hat with ribbon and
carried a bouquet of mums,
daisies and roses.
Judy Davis of Black
Creek. Judy Phillips of
Wilson, Mamie Jo Bridgers
of Wilson. Dennise Jackson
of Black Creek, Marie
Shearin of Norlina. sister of
the groom, and Sharon
Eatmon of Wilson were
bridesmaids. They were
dressed identical to that of
the honor attendant except
with blue gowns.
Robin Barnes of Kenly,
cousin of the bride, was
flower girl and wore a white
lace floor-length dress.
Brent Barnes of Kenly,
cousin of the bride, was ring
bearer.
Woodrow'Shearin was his
son's best man. Ushers were
Jerry Crocker and Carlton
Crocker of Wilson, both
brothers of the bride; Tom
O'Dea, Fred Woodard and
Steve Smith, all of Wilson
and Lynn Shearin of
Raleigh, brother of the
groom.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Newsome of Rt. 5, Wilson.
Mr. Shearin is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Woodrow Wilson
Shearin of Norlina.
She is employed by
Branch Bank and Trust
Company of Wilson. Shearin
is with Jones Floral Company
of Richmond, Va.
Reception
Following the ceremony
the bride's parents entertained
at a reception in the
fellowship hall of the
church. Wedding music was
presented by Randy Everton
of Wilson.
Tables were covered with
lace cloths over blue and
centered with an arrangement
of mixed summer
flowers and candles.
Mr. and Mrs Butch
El-Ramey greeted guests.
A three-tiered wedding
cake and punch with other
dainties were served. Assisting
in serving were Mrs.
Billy Barnes of Kenly, Mrs.
Mack Barnes of Kenly. Mrs.
Jean Marlowe of Fremont,
and Mrs. Lilly Fleming of
Manson.
Following a wedding trip
to Williamsburg, Va.. the
couple will reside at Rt. 3.
Wilson.
Rehearsal I'artv
Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow
Shearin of Norlina, parents
of the groom, gave a
rehearsal party on Saturday
night at the fellowship hall
of the church.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Harris
of Oxford. Miss., welcomed
the guests
Mrs. A. J. Bobbitt of
Norlina. aunt of the groom,
said goodbyes.
Mr Shearin presented
gifts to his attendants at this
time. Approximately 60
guests attended.

Annie Oakley, inspiration
for the play "Annie, GetYour
Gun," began firing
guns at age 9. shooting small
game. By the time she was
16. profits from selling the
game paid off the mortgage
on the family farm.
Automobile tires made of
wood were tested during
World War II, when rubber
was in short supply. They
worked well on smooth
roads at speeds up to 75
miles an hour, but tended to
(hip when they hit a pothole.

At Knight Home
• Circle 3 met in the home of
Mrs. James Knight Monday
night.
The circle leader, Mrs.
Clayton Taylor, opened the
meeting with a prayer.
Mrs. Nat Burgess presented
the program on the
Methodist Church symbols
as a followup on the
program of the Women's
General Meeting which was
held recently. Mrs. Burgess
used sketches drawn by her
husband, the Rev. Mr.
Burgess, as an aid to her
program.
During the business portion
of the meeting, plans
were made to serve the
Methodist Men's Supper this
week. Also, there was a
discussion of the plans for
the upcoming revival.
The meeting was closed
with the benediction.
Mrs. Knight served delicious
refreshments to the 12
members and one visitor
present.
