A program was given in an effort to ensure that families in the area are aware of the importance of good nutrition. Howard Edmonds went on an auto tour through the Blue Ridge Parkway over the weekend. Mrs. W. S. Hicks visited relatives in Fayetteville over the weekend. Mrs. Robert Whitman will return to her home in California Thursday after spending some time with her cousin, Walter Newman, and his daughters. Mr and Mrs. David Perkinson and family of Cary visited his mother, Mrs. W. H. Perkinson, over the weekend. Mrs. Bessie Dalton and Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Dalton of Richmond, Va., spent several days last week visiting relatives in Shelby and Cherryville. There they met Mr. and Mrs. Larry Perkinson of Stillwater, Okla., and went on to tour Chimney Rock and Asheville. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Robbins of Richmond, Va., joined them later and they all enjoyed a tour of Kings Mountain. S. C., and the mountains of North Carolina. Mrs. Maggie Adcock and Ben Lloyd spent the weekend in Magnolia with their niece, Mrs. Eldon Brown. Friday, Mr. Brown visited his grandson, Tom Shaffer at Lake Waccamaw. The skit entitled, "Nutrient Trial," was given by members of the third grade class, with the assistance of their teacher, Mrs. R. I. Paschall, Mrs. G. G. Burchette, and Mrs. H. I. Williams. The Rev. G. Elton Cooke, leader of the club, planned the trip with the assistance of Mrs. Ellen Moseley. The group toured Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson and Ash Lawn, the home of James Monroe, in Charlottesville where they also spent the night. Friday, they journeyed to Swannanoa, Va., to tour the Marble Palace and Sculpture Gardens which were described as a mountain-top paradise. Then they went to Stannton, Va., and the birthplace of the 28th President, Woodrow Wilson. Friday night they returned home. A little tired perhaps, but all the happier for having participated, pated. Mrs. Bender Is Hostess To Club On Friday. October 14, Mrs. Leonard Bender entertained the Zion Homemakers Club in her home. The meeting was opened by singing "Sweet Hour of Prayer." Mrs. J. D. Holtzman gave the devotions. The minutes were read and old and new business was discussed The club planned a trip to Richmond. Va., to tour the Phillip Morris Tobacco Factory on Nov. 22. Mrs. Bertha Forte gave an interesting program on smoke detectors. For the social hour the hostess served delicious refreshments. Mrs. Meredith Richardson will entertain the members in November. Gala Dinner Party Honors Mrs. Whitman Mrs. B. A. Thaxton hosted the Norlina Bridge Club in her home on Tuesday, October 11. The high score player was Mrs. Katherine Robertson; second high, Mrs. Maggie Adcock; and Mrs. Katie Davis won the bingo hand. Guest players were Mrs. Maggie Adcock and Mrs. Minnie Cawthorne. Mrs. Thaxton served her guests a salad and coffee. A ball game craze swept parts of America long before Columbus arrived. Virtually every Middle American ruin contains at least one court where teams played a ball game that is still not perfectly understood. Mrs. Marie Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert 0. Leete of Wise, is nurse practitioner recently hired by Dr. Donald R. Coffman of Norlina. Mrs. Jones studied at the University of Virginia, and was formerly employed by a rural health center in Buckingham County, Va., financed by the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Methodist Women Conduct Meeting The Daughters of Jerusalem met October 11 in the home of Mrs. Dot Leete at 8 p. m. Mrs. Leete presided over the meeting. The program was given by Mrs. Brenda Rooker on what United Methodist Women means to her. The group adopted a new project to send bath kits to the migrant workers in the Raleigh District. Becky Rooker was appointed chairman of the project. Mrs. Alice King will be the hostess for the November meeting. Church Women Conduct Meeting The United Methodist Women of Jerusalem met in the home of Mrs. Ida Bolton on October 12. Louise Riggan presided over the meeting in the absence of the president. Becky Rooker discussed plans for the tri-county meeting at Jerusalem on November 3. All ladies were urged to attend. The meeting closed with prayer. The hostess, Dot Bolton, served chicken salad sandwiches, ham biscuits, chips, pickle and coffee. Rescue Squadsmen Receive $3,168 Captain George Carter of the Warren County Rescue Squad reported a total of $3,168 was received during the month of September. Fund raising projects during the month included a road block during Labor Day weekend, a musical program presented by the Community Chorus at McIver School Gymnasium, and a canvas of area businesses and individuals. Meeting Slated The Community Sharing Group will meet each Monday from 9 to 10 a. m. in the home of Mrs. Joe Riggan. This week the program, "Witness for Christ and our Brothers" was given by Louise Riggan. The Rev. Jim Hebel will have the program next Monday. Drewry Bridge Players Gather The Drewry Bridge Club met Tuesday, October 11 with Mrs. Edmund White. Mrs. A. L. Faulkner, Jr., won the high score; second high score was won by Mrs. Joe Mabry, Jr.; Mrs. C. B. Curtis, Jr., won the surprise; and the bingo hand was won by Mrs. Roger Fleming. Other players were Mrs. Ellis Fleming, Miss Ann Floyd and Mrs. W. H. Fletcher. The hostess served butterscotch delight and coffee. Norlina Women To Sponsor Drive The Norlina Woman's Club is sponsoring a paper drive in the NorUna area.
