I am genuinely concerned over the growing number of pool rooms in our central business district. Already we have five pool rooms and there are indications that a sixth is on the way. Pool rooms have their place, but I do not believe it is along Main Street, or in the areas where shops and stores should be encouraged. With our town zoning ordinance we have the tool to make pool rooms a nonconforming use of business district property. This will not force existing pool rooms to close down, but it would prevent the establishment of additional ones. And it will make available space for business outlets which can broaden our tax base. As a town board member who has worked for a comprehensive development plan, and a workable zoning code, I believe we can do much to protect the beauty of our Main Street and we can do much to encourage quality shops and stores in our business district. As mayor, I plan to continue my efforts toward making Warrenton an attractive and financially sound community. I would like your help on November 8th, and afterwards, in making this possible.
