SALLY WILSON 3 - Peace Scholarship ' Given Local Girl Margaret (Sally) Wilson ■ of Norlina has been awarded I a competitive honors scholarship for the 1978-79 I academic year at Peace I College. Announcement of the scholarship award was I made by Dr. S. David Frazier, president of the i Presbyterian junior college . for women. Honors scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, citizenship, college entrance exam scores and promise of future usefulness to society. Miss Wilson, daughi r of Mr. and Mrs. W B. Super Saturdays Begun At Church Jerusalem United Methodist Church has recently started a new program called, "Super Saturdays." It is a weekly program for young children, grades 1-6 and is open to the children of the community. Children are asked to bring a sack lunch and meet at the church from 10 a. m. to 12 noon on Saturday. Three From Here Travel To Forum Becky Collier, Carolyn Adcock and Tillie Daeke attended a hair fashion and education forum in Wilson on Monday at the Willow Springs Country Club. Sponsored by Koster Supply Co. and Wella Company, special artists were Robert Tenner of Texas and Christine Nybof of Detroit. Hair cutting, krimping, hair coloring and permanent waving were demonstrated. Miss Allen Hosts Olga Hood Circle" The Olga Hood Mission Action Circle of the Norlina Baptist Church held their meeting Monday, Oct. 24, in the home of Miss Gwen Allen. The meeting was called to order by the circle leader, Mrs. Jean Frazier, who also offered a devotional message. Mrs. Eva Ayscue presented an interesting program "Missionaries in a Secular World." Refreshments were served by Miss Allen and the meeting was adjourned. Mrs. Eva Ayscue invited the group to meet in her home for the November meeting. Mrs. Bobbitt Is Hostess For WMU Mrs. Dot Bobbitt entertained the WMU at the Norlina Baptist Church on Monday evening, Mrs. Beatrice Setzer, chairman, gave the devotions and read a poem "The One Solitary Line." Mrs. Bobbitt led the opening prayer. Mrs. Mae Shearin read the minutes of the September meeting, old and new business was discussed and the sick were remembered The group was reminded that Nov. 7 will be the day of prayer in all churches. Mrs. Pattie Brauer. program chairman, gave an interesting program on European Baptist Convention. Mrs. Setzer offered the closing prayer. For the social hour the hostess served a salad plate and soft drinks. Couple Honored With Housewarming Mr. and Mrs Wayne Whitmore were honored with a housewarming at their home on Harris Street on Tuesday, October 18, from 7:30 to 9 p. m. Hostesses were Mrs. Julia Wheeler, Mrs. Linda Hundley and Mrs. Harriet Faulkner. Flower arrangements used throughout the home were compliments of the hostesses. Approximately 35 guests viewed the home and enjoyed assorted hor d'oeuvres. Mrs. Whitmore received many lovely gifts for her home. EVERETT MEADOR Couple Celebrates Golden Anniversary A 50th wedding anniversary reception honored Everett and Mildred Meador on Sunday, October 23. Hosted by their children and grandchildren, the reception was held in the education hall of the Zion United Methodist Church in Oine. Approximately 200 guests attended Children of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Lee Meador of Medford. Mass., Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Roberts of Durham. The couple's wedding certificate, displayed in a gold leaf frame, graced the registration table. A portrait taken on their wedding day, October 17, 1927, was placed on an easel near the gift table. Mrs. Meador was gowned in a formal baby blue polyester dress with Venice lace appliques. She was presented a corsage of yellow roses and Mr. Meador received a yellow rose boutonniere. Guests were served cheese straws, finger sandwiches. mints, nuts, ham biscuits, cake and punch. Mrs. Mae Lamm and Mrs. Margaret Stevenson, sisters of Mrs. Meador, served the punch and cake. Mrs. Selma White, cousin of Mrs. Meador, officiated at the registration table. Mrs. Alma Meador, sisterin-law of the couple, and Mrs. Lillian Tyndall presided at the gift table. Mrs. Alice Stultz gave the devotions from the 13th chapter of Psalms and offered a prayer. [hiring the business session which followed, the circle members were urged to attend the study course on Nov. 21. The book entitled "Rivers of Ink" will be taught by the Rev. Ed Laughman. Several members of the circle gave money to purchase two hymnals which are needed in the church.
