HealthCo Groundbreaking Held A groundbreaking ceremony for HealthCo, which is expected to be completed by April of 1978, was held at Soul City Wednesday. Although located in Soul City, HealthCo is not a part of Soul City. It is designed to serve Warren and Vance counties, Hubert Avent, director of HealthCo Inc. said Avent said that HealthCo is a family oriented concept. This means that each family will be given a "provider," a physician responsible for treating the whole family. If the family should become dissatisfied with its •provider" another one will be assigned upon request. "HealthCo," continued Avent, "will be a one-stop service." This means that virtually all health services will be provided in one setting, Avent explained. "In order to ensure that HealthCo is a community Controlled organization," Avent said, "51 percent of those constituting the Wreck Victims Are Recovering Injuries suffered by a Warren County resident and her son more than two weeks ago are responding well to medical treatment, one of the victims said this week Mrs Eva Clayton of Warrenton and her son, Theaoseus Theab Clayton, Jr . of Ebony, Va., received the injuries during a head-on collision Oct. 14 on the Henderson-Warrenton road. Also injured was Alvin Clinton Currin of Henderson, driver of the second vehicle. All three victims were taken to Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson for treatment and later transferred to Duke Hospital in Durham for additional treatment. Clayton, son of Warrenton attorney T T. Clayton, driver of one of the vehicles, received cuts on the head and sustained a broken leg and arm. He is listed in satisfactory condition at Duke Hospital although he will remain in traction for about five more weeks, his mother said. He was taken from the hospital's intensive care unit a week ago. Mrs. Clayton was treated for lacerations and a broken elbow following the accident She returned home but will continue to have regular check-ups at the hospital, she said this week. Highway patrol troopers, in investigating the incident, charged Currin with driving left of center. The accident occurred about 2.6 miles west of the Warrenton city limits. HealthCo Board of Directors will be actual users of HealthCo.'' Avent distinguished between "users" of HealthCo and "consumers." Users, he said, are those who actually do utilize the services and facilities, while consumers are potential, not actual users. Many services are already being provided by HealthCo. For example, WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is a food program for women during pregnancy. EPSDT (Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment) is a service for those persons "from zero through 21 years of .ge" which emphasizes HealthCo's preventive medical orientation. Consistent with this orientation are the immunization and dental services. The making of false teeth is one of the services providt j by HealthCo's'dental program. The OB-GYN (obstetric and gynecological) service is "designed for pregnant women and others on an on-going basis," Avent said. Manv people, continued Avent are not aware of the qualif.-id doctors who are available through HealthCo, among whom are internal specialists, gynecologists, and family physicians. Avent added that the cost of these services is contingent x>n family size and income. President of The Soul City Co., Floyd B. McKissick, addresses the audience that attended HealthCo's groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 26. Facing the audience and seated left to right are Rev. Frank Maloney, Dr. J. P. Green, Chairman of The HealthCo Board; Lee Rudd, NCA-HUD representative; Mr. Pat McGuckin of HEW, Dr. Archie Johnson of North Carolina Memorial Hospital, W. P. Jones, Chairman of the Warren County Commissioners, and Mrs. Varah Brown, Chairperson of The Groundbreaking Committee.
