..Warrenton school children had a
chance to display their artistic talents
last Friday morning by painting
Halloween scenes on the storefront
windows along Main Street. The art
project was begun everal years ago by
the Warrenton Arts Commission and
continues now as an annual treat for
youngsters at Halloween.

October 26, a group of young
people came out to Warren
Plaza and presented an
entertaining program (or
the residents. The coordina■
tor • for this group is
Sherman Johnson from
radio station, WARR.
The other members of the
group were Pamela Green,
Willie Wilson, Pierre Green,
Carolyn Dunston, Mrs.
Natalie Harris and Annette
Harris. Mr. White, a talent
promoter from Rocky
Mount, was here to observe
the group.
The group presented several
modern dance numbers
and sang several songs. The
residents enjoyed this very
much, as it was different
from what we are used to

the Wise Fire Department
will sponsor a yard and bake
sale on November 5 from 10
a. m. to 4 p. m. at the
firehouse.
Featured will be Christmas
decorations, clothes,

employee who is acting as
activities coordinator. Mrs.
Mary Bryce is starting to set
up a program of activities so
all employees can participate.
They have been
playing games two nights a
week and prizes are
awarded to the winners.
Some arts-and-crafts classes
are planned.

Helen Holt Joins
Warren Record
Helen Holt, a Warrenton
native, this week joined the
staff of The Warren Record
as its news editor. She
returns to Warrenton and to
this office after more than a
year's stay in Nash and
Halifax counties, where she
was a staff writer for The
Evening Telegram in Rocky
Mount and Halifax County
This Week newspaper in
Enfield.
In her new post, Holt will
be responsible for news
coverage throughout W&rren
and adjacent counties
and will direct news
gathering of this paper,
of this paper.
She was employed by the
Record temporarily last
summer after she returned
from a six-month tenure at
the University of Reading,
Reading, England.
Prior to her stay in
England, Holt worked for
one year at The Eden News
in Eden. She was employed
the year previous as
technical editor for Western
Electric Company in Winston-Salem.
A 1973 graduate of Salem
College where she majored
in English, she is the
daughter of Dr. and Mrs.
Tom Holt of Warrenton.
