Adams of Bryn Mawr, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Traylor of Raleigh. Tom and Mary Lou Traylor were also home for the weekend to visit their family and friends. Mrs. Grey Egerton, Miss Catherine Brauer and Mrs. Paul Brauer toured the mountains of North Carolina recently and also visited W. F. Alston in Harmony. Mack Adams of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Lucille Satterwhite of Warrenton visited their mother, Mrs. C. J. Adams on Sunday. Mrs. Martha Draffin and Mrs. Emory Hicks spent some time recently visiting their children, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hicks in Charlotte. Mrs. Bessie Dalton, Mrs. Emma Hawks, Mrs. Gladys Perkinson and Mrs. Jennie Hundley returned home Friday after spending several days with their children. Mrs. Dalton and Mrs. Hawks visited in Raleigh and Mrs. Perkinson and Mrs. Hundley visited their families in Cary. Mr. and Mrs. William J. Hicks had Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hicks, Jr., and daughter, Brandie, of Richmond, Va., as guests on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fleming visited James T. Fleming at MCV Hospital on Sunday and Darlene and Tasker Fleming accompanied them to visit their father. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Egerton visited Bill Perry, who is a patient at the Sanitarium Hospital in Rocky Mount on Saturday. Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brickhouse were Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Brickhouse and daughter. Sue Ellen, of Chapel Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Abner Dawson and daughter. Amber, of Kinston. Mrs. John Davis of Durham spent some time recently with her sister, Mrs. Heniy Wiggins. Mrs. Pam Allen and Heather are spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claries Wilson. Mr and Mrs. John Clark returned home Thursday after spending the summer at Emerald Isles. Their grandchildren, Sarah Joy and Braxton Earl Barrett. Ill, of Durham spent Friday and Saturday night with them. Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Barrett, II, joined them on Sunday. Mrs. O. T. Hicks spent some time recently in Richmond, Va.. visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ed Person. The Rev. Millard Warren of Durham was in town Sunday to attend the wedding of Miss Jeanne Knight and John Crandall Wilson. The Rev. Mr. Warren will also be here to preach the morning worship service at the Norlina UMC on Sunday, Nov. 13. Mr and Mrs. Jack Piland and sons of Rocky Mount and Mrs. Juel Duke of Bracey, Va., were Sunday guests of Mrs. J. P. Williams, Sr. Going Away Party Honors Mrs. Scotten Mrs. D. L. Scotten was guest of honor at a party Tuesday: Mrs'H. H; Fosfer and Mrs. C. E. Tucker were hostesses for the party at the Foster home. Mrs. Scotten, who has been a resident of Norlina for 26 years, will move to Kicnmond, Va,, next week MRS. JOHN CRANDALL WILSON Miss Knight, Becomes Bride Of Mr. Wilson The Norlina United Methodist Church was the setting for the wedding of Miss Jeanne Holt Knight to John Crandall Wilson of Drewry, Sunday afternoon at 3 p m. The Rev. R Bruce Pate of Durham, former pastor of the church, officiated. Using traditional effects of Colonial candlelabra and greenery, the altar was centered with an arrangement of white mums and gladiola Mrs. Priscilla Hair of Norlina rendered nuptial music. Miss Patricia Hicks, soloist, sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "The Wedding '■ Song." 21 JoS Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a formal gown of candlelight satin trimmed with lace and pearls. Her bouquet was of white roses. Miss Deborah Knight, sister of the bride, was maid of honor Bridesmaids were Mrs. Cedric Tant of Warrenton and Miss Joan Roberson of Oxford. They wore willow green gowns of crepe with a cape collar. F. Eugene Wilson, Jr., of Drewry, brother of the groom, was best man. Ushers were Johnny Fleming of Drewry, Douglas Brinkley of Raleigh, Randy Curtis of Manson and Ray L Tray lor of Norlina. Mrs. H. G. Cornelius was mistress of ceremonies. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Knight of Norlina She is a graduate of East Carolina University ant. is employed as a social worker for the Warren County Department of Social Services. Mr. Wilson is the son of Mrs. Floyd Eugene Wilson of Drewry and the late Mr. Wilson. He is a graduate of N. C. State University and is engaged in farming. Reception A reception given by the bride's parents was held immediately following the wedding at the church. Guests were greeted by Mr and Mrs Leon Knight of Norlina. Mrs. Laney Pierce of Henderson presided at the guest register. After cutting the traditional first slice of the wedding cake, Mrs. H. G. Cornelius of Mooresville completed serving the cake. Mrs. Daniel Knight of Norlina served punch, using a silver punch ladle belonging to the bride's great, great-grandmother. Other dainties included ham biscuits, orange blossoms, mint leaf mints, cheese straws, and sand dabs. Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Knight of Norlina said goodbyes. Following a wedding trip to the mountains the couple will reside in Drewry. Dinner Party Miss Jeanne Knight and John Crandall Wilson were honored at a dinner party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Mundy on October 30. Hosts and hostesses for the party were Mrs. Benjamin Oakley, Mr. and Mrs. John Mundy and Mr. and Mrs. David Rose of Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. Lynwood Cherry of Durham, and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Home of Rocky Mount. Upon arrival the brideelect was presented an orchid corsage and Mr. Wilson, a carnation. . , < , "* Guests were served hors d'oeuvres and punch upon arrival. A menu of ham, roast beef and turkey with various side dishes were served the % guests. The honorees were presented a place setting in their silver pattern. Bridesmaids Luncheon Mrs. H. B. Cornelius of Mooresville was hostess for a bridesmaid luncheon on November 5 at the Norlina Woman's Clubhouse. Guests were the bridal party and out-of-town guests. A ham plate was served the guests. The hostess presented the bride a corsage and a place setting of her chosen silver pattern. Miss Knight chose this time to present gifts to her attendants. After-Rehearsal Buffet Mrs. Eugene Wilson, mother of the groom, entertained about 60 guests including the wedding party and out-of-town relatives at an after-rehearsal buffet in her home on Nov. 5. Fall floral arrangements decorated the home and candle lanterns lighted the lawn. Upon arrival the guests were served punch. A poem written by the groom's mother and dedicated to the couple was read by the groom's brother, F. Eugene Wilson, Jr. A delicious meal was served. In Hospital On Friday, Mrs. Betty Fleming of Warrenton and Mrs. Myrtle Fleming visited James Fleming, who is a patient at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, Va. They also visited relatives in Chester and Richmond and returned home Sunday night. Record Tree In N. C. The largest Cherry bark oak tree in the United States is located in Perquimans County. It is nine feet three inches in diameter, 120 feet tall, and has a crown spread of 126 feet. Mrs. Rooker Is Circle Gathers Feted On Birthday At Faulk Home Mrs. Selma Rooker was the honored guest at a dinner on Saturday, Oct. 29, at The Rafters Steak House in Warrenton. Mrs. Antha Buchannan and children, Mr. and Mrs. Guy H. Buchanan of Williamsburg, Va., and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wade of Grafton, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Matthews and son, Barry, of Greensboro and daughter. Miss Lynn Matthews of Richmond, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tingle of Richmond, Va , Mr. and Mrs. Truett Calahan and children, Lynn, Raymond and Connie of Winder, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Smith of Oxford and son, Billy of Richmond, Va., were on hand to help their mother and grandmother celebrate her birthday. On Wednesday, Nov. 2, Mrs. Rooker was surprised with a birthday party at her home in Norlina. Mrs. Milton Burrows was hostess for the festivity. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Gill and children, Milton Burrows, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Burrows, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Burrows, Mrs. Antha Buchannan and Mrs. Josephine Buchannan. Birthday cake and other refreshments were enjoyed by all. Circle No. 1 Meets With Mrs. Ivey Circle No. 1 of the Norlina United Methodist Women met in the home of Mrs. C. O. Ivey on Monday, Nov. 7. at 3 p. m. The meeting was called to order by singing a hymn. The program entitled, "An Outpouring of Greatful Thanks," was presented by Mrs. R. G. Norwood who also offered the scripture reading A collection of the World Thank Offering was taken. Mrs. Ivey closed the meeting with prayer. All present enjoyed a social hpur with the hostess serving delicious refreshments. Mrs. Norwood invited the circle members to meet in her home in December. Circle Meeting The Annie Armstrong Circle No. 2 of the Wise Baptist Church met on Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the home of Mrs. Edith Comer. "Where Are You Going" was the title of the program presented by Mrs. Mildred Wilson. Mrs. Bob Rogers gave the devotions. The hostess served delicious refreshments to the 11 members present. The December meeting will be held at the church where the Week of Prayer will be observed from Dec. 4 through Dec. U. Circle No. 2 of the Norlina UMW met Monday night in the home of Mrs. John Faulk with Mrs. W. S. Hicks presiding. A devotional message was given by Mrs. Dwight Scotten and her program was entitled, "The Art of Staying Young." Mrs. Robert Brantley presented a special Thanksgiving program. The circle presented Mrs. Scotten with a going away gift The group decided to remember "shut-ins" at Christmas and to have a covered dish supper for the December meeting at the church. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. Campbell Gains Raise With Firm James E. Campbell, Sr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Campbell of Norlina was promoted to melter supervisor in the steel-making department at Bethlehem Steel Corporation's Sparrows Point, Md., plant. Campbell previously worked as assistant melter supervisor. A native of Norlina, Campbell attended high school in Warren County. He joined the steel-making department at the Sparrows plant in 1955 as a vessel liner helper. Through the years, he has advanced through various positions of increasing responsibility prior to his promotion. Mr. and Mrs. J. R Ogburn of Raleigh announce the engagement of their daughter, Martha Janelle, to Clayton Charles Mitchell, II, of Greenville, S. C., son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton C. Mitchell of Norlina. The wedding is planned for December 11. Woman's Club Has Talk On Energy The Norlina Woman's Club met Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the club house in Norlina with Mrs Leigh Traylor and Mrs. Graham Grissom as hostesses. Mrs. L. C. Davis of Warrenton offered the devotions The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Owen Robertson, Jr., president, who also introduced the guest speaker, Gordon Green, of Warrenton.
