Last week Mrs. Edward Orgain of Durham visited her aunt, Mrs. Will Graham, who is a patient at Warren General Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Brodie Winborne were guests on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Davis. Mrs. J. E. Cheves has returned from Kill Devil Hills where she spent a week with her niece, Mrs. Nancy Loy and children, Brad, Jeff and David. She also visited her brother, Mr. W. T. Johnson, in Hampton, Va., and Mrs. P. H. Johnson and family in Portsmouth, Va. Miss Verlean Pittard is now making her home at Colonial Lodge. Mrs. Burrell Smiley and Mrs. Buck Smiley of Macon spent Sunday with Mrs. Beaufort Neal at Colonial Lodge. Mr. Wallace Bowers of Colonial Lodge spent Sunday with his sister, Mrs. Martha B. Nutrition Seminar Slated In Vance A nutrition education workshop will be sponsored Thursday, Nov. 17, by the Franklin-Vance-Warren Opportunity, Inc., Full Year Head Start. The workshop will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Young Street in Henderson. Scheduled from 10 a. m. to 12 noon, the workshops will be preceded by pre-workshop activities, beginning at 9:30 a. m. Topics to be discussed Thursday include the Daily Food Guide, with an emphasis on selecting food, the amount of food to purchase and prepare and alternate foods that provide nutrition. All workshops have been planned and scheduled by Emily Russell, food service coordinator with the Head Start program. Margie F. Gilbert, director of Dairy Education and Consumer Services for Pine State Creamery in Raleigh, will conduct the workshop. All Head Start parents are urged to attend these nutrition workshops. Certificates will be presented to those who participate. The next workshop is scheduled for Dec. 15 and will focus upon menu planning. Vance-Granville Gets Formal Word HENDERSON - Vance Granville Community College has been given official accreditation by the State Board of Education, it was announced Tuesday by Dr. Donald R. Mohorn, VGCC president. Information was that "accreditation is to be reaffirmed periodically in accordance with accreditation procedure." The notice came from G. Herman Porter, associate vice president for student services and program resources; and Ben E. Fountain, Jr., of the Department of Community Colleges. Accreditation by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges is expected to be announced at a meeting of that body in New Orleans early in December. (Staff Photo) Warren Jaycees Collect $300 For Cystic Fibrosis Campaign BURGESS John Burgess, Jr. Named Nominee John Buchanan Burgess, Jr., has been selected as Warren Academy School's candidate for the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation International Leadership Seminar competition, B. L. King, Headmaster announced. The Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation promotes leadership qualities in high school sophomores. The local competition was open to all high school sophomores. The criteria for selection consisted of evidence of emerging leadership ability, cooperation with fellow human beings and sensitivity to the needs of others, and the desire to learn and share knowledge and experience with others. John will now compete with other high school representatives from North Carolina. At least one boy or girl from the state will be chosen to attend the annual, all-expense-paid, week-long International Leadership Seminar on America's Ircentive System, sponsored by the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation and coordinated by Columbia University in New York City, April 15-22, 1978. A "Blue Ribbon" committee composed of 53 nationally-recognized leaders will select the candidates at the state level. The Warren County Jaycees Chapter, sponsor of Kiss Your Baby Campaign for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Warrenton announced that the campaign has been completed with $300 collected. Bullock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Bullock of Rt. 2, Macon, is participating in the major allied Exercise "Ocean Safari '77" in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean. He is serving as a crewmember aboard the guiied missile destroyer USS Richard E. Byrd, homeported in Norfolk, Va. Bullock is one of more than 7,000 men taking part in the 13-day exercise, which Births "... World Of Books In The Warren County Memorial Library Children's Book Week is Nov. 14-19, along with American Education Week. Bring your child into the library, and go visit his school. We feel every week in our library is Children's Book Week. We have been saddened by the death of two good friends of the Library - Mrs. Henry Twitty, who had given of her time and talents to researching for the U.D.C. She labored long and hard with this organization, doing much of her work in the library. She was an accomplished artist and ceramist, appreciating all of the beautiful books in here. I'm certain the U.D.C. has other capable members to "carry the torch," but they will have to be willing to work long and hard. Marvin K. Aycock, a member of the Library Board of Trustees, will be missed for his time, interest, and gentle manner. We are placing our craft books out so you can prepare for the wonderful seasons coming up. Woman's Club Plans Yard And Bake Sale The Warrenton Woman's Club will have a Yard and Bake sale at the AAA Gas Company on Friday, Nov. 18 from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. and Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a. m. to 12 noon.
