Three Men Tried On 'Angel Dust' Charge Three men charged with illegal manufacturing of phencyclidine, a halucinogen, commonly known as "angel dust," appeared before Judge Claude W. Allen, Jr., of Oxford during Friday's mixed session of Warren County District Court. The men, Charlie Lewis Boone, Curtis Alvin Boone and Lionel Boone, were arrested Nov. 2 in the Bethlehem community and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and deliver and manufacturing a controlled substance. The arrests were the first in • North Carolina for the manufacture of the powerful drug which acts as a depressant on the central nervous system. The judge continued the cases. Cases disposed of included : Robert Lee Alston, of Warren County, driving under the influence of intoxicants, waived formal presentation of evidence; ordered to jail for six months and assigned to work under supervision of N. C. Department of Correction. Notice of appeal given to next criminal session of Superior Court. Arnold Bender, Jr., 01 Warren County public drunkenness, voluntary dismissal. Ernest Lee Bryant, non-" support, payments to be made to the Clerk of Superior Court with money to be remitted to the N. C. Dept. of Human Resources. Victor Bullock of Warren County, driving under the influence of intoxicants, driving while license revoked, failure to stop to avoid accident, called and failed. Ordered arrested for appearance on Dec. 30 to be held without privilege of bond. First bond of $200 ordered forfeited. Lonnie Chavis, misdemeanor larceny, voluntary dismissal. James T. Foster, misdemeanor larceny, voluntary dismissal. Edward Thomas Fuller, misdemeanor larceny, voluntary dismissal. Forrest Hinton Cheek of Halifax Co., failure to stop at scene of accident, voluntary dismissal. Jessie Cheek, Warren Co., improper equipment, rear lamps, court costs. Notice of appeal given to next criminal session of Superior Court with bond to remain in effect. Howard Crossin, trespass, disorderly conduct, resisting officer, ordered to jail for 15 days on first two charges, found not guilty on resisting charge. Daniel Cooper, bastardy, voluntary dismissal. Walter Davis, nonsupport, voluntary dismissal. Claude Edwards, driving under the influence of intoxicants, ordered to jail for four months, suspended for 12 months on the condition that he surrender operator's license and not operate motor vehicle on highways of N. C. for 12 months and pay fine of $125 and court costs. William R. Everette, worthless check, voluntary dismissal. Thomas J. Johnson, of Washington, D.C., driving under influence of intoxicants, no operator's license, possession of marihuana, bondsman's motion for remission of the bond forfeiture was allowed. The bond was ordered forfeited in amount of $200. Eric Jones, Penn., speeding 95 in 55 mph zone, called and failed. Bond of $100 ordered forfeited. Gary Jones, Warren Co., worthless check on nonexistent account, ordered to jail for four months, suspended for 12 months on the condition he pay court costs, pay $80 to Clerk of Superior Court for use of Floyd Pendergrass and not be found guilty of a worthless check violation for 12 months William Louis Kearney, i assault on female, court costs. Ted Kersey, nonsupport, court found defendant to be father of child in question and therefore, guilty of nonsupport. He was ordered to jail for six months, suspended for four years on the condition he pay court costs and (15 each week to Clerk of Superior Court to support the minor child. Allen Thomas Lynch of Warren Co., driving under the influence of intoxicants, found guilty of reckless driving after consumption of alcohol, fined $100 and court costs. Joseph Lee Marks of Warren County, second offense of driving under the influence of intoxicants, ordered to jail for 90 days, suspended for 12 months on the condition he pay court costs, fine of $100, surrender operator's license and not operate motor vehicle on highways of N. C. for 12 months. Walter Lee Neal, Warren Co., failure to see safe movement, not guilty. Selena Bailey Nobles, Washington, D.C., speeding 70 in 55 mph zone, called and failed. John R. Pace of New York, speeding 68 in 55 mph zone, called and failed. Tracy Wayne Palmer, two charges of worthless check and two of worthless check on closed account, ordered to pay court cost in one case and amount of checks as restitution to the prosecuting witness. Donald Ray Paynter, Wise, speeding 67 in 55 mph zone, found guilty of exceeding safe speed, fined $5 and court costs. Wiley Richardson, trespass, ordered to jail for four months, suspended for two years on the condition he not go on premises of any lands owned by the Warren County School System unless he had Written permission to do so during the two year period and pay court costs. General Douglass Russell, assault on female, ordered to jail for 90 days, suspended for two years on the condition he pay court costs and not assault his wife for two years. Donald Sheann, assault inflicting serious injury, voluntary dismissal. j. N. Short, assault inflicting serious injury, voluntary dismissal. McKinley Silver, Hollister assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, found guilty of misdemeanor assault with deadly weapon by negotiated plea, he was ordered to jail for not less than eight months nor more than 12 months, suspended for two vears on the condition he pay court costs, and $38 to Clerk of Superior Court to be remitted to Nash General Hospital, $62 to Dr. H. D. Cleaver, which are medical bills incurred by Duster Richardson, and for two years not be found guilty of any crime involving assault with a deadly weapon or in no way harass, molest or interfere with the peaceful living of Duster Richardson and not go on premises of Duster Richardson unless he has written permission. On assault inflicting serious injury charges, he was ordered to jail for six months to run at expiration of other sentence, suspended for two years on the condition he pay court costs and for two years in no way harass, molest or interfere with the peaceful living of his wife, Gloria Silver and for two years he in no way assault his wife. Taylor Eugene Simmons, communicating threats ordered to jail for 30 days, suspended for two years on the condition he pay court costs and in no way molest, harass, or interfere with the peaceful living of his wife, Jane Stegall Simmons. Amedo Simoncig, Gaston, soeeding 50 in 35 mph woe, Surf and failed. Ordered arrested for appearance « Dec. 30 with bond set at $100. Kim M. Smith, N. J., speeding 70 in 55 mph zone, called and failed. William A. Turner, Pa., speeding 70 in 55 mph zone, called and failed. Leroy Vaughan, misuse of telephone, called and failed. Ordered arrested for appearance on Dec. 2 with bond set at $200. David Wilson of Vance Co., trespass, ordered to jail for four months, suspended for two years on the condition he not go on premises of any lands owned by Warren County Schools unless he has written permission to do so during two year period, pay court costs. Muriel Meredith Wright, Va., improper passing, called and failed Mattie Rowlett vs. Elijah Rowlett, absolute divorce granted. Connie Montague vs. Robert Durham, court found defendant had willfully violated court order and case continued two weeks to see if defendant catches up on arrearages. Harry L. Carter vs. Veta W. Carter, absolute divorce granted. Margie Whitehead vs. Stanley Eulice Whitehead, absolute divorce granted. Kevin M. Rine, John D. Cunningham, Bobby Lee Jones, 96-hour hearing held for each man on charges of felonious attempted escape. Marvin Rooker was named attorney for the men with preliminary hearings set for Dec. 2.
