The supper will begin at 5:45 p.m. and ham and chicken plates will be provided for $3 for adults and $1.50 for children. Booker of Norfolk, Va., were guests of Mrs. Lottie Nance on Saturday. UMW Gathers The Drewry United Methodist Women met in the home of Mrs. Alice Ranes. Mrs. Mollie Paschall, president, opened the meeting with a Thanksgiving prayer. The devotions and program were presented by Mrs. Sue White. -Mrs. A E xiles read a poem "Things To Be Thankful For" and Michael Ranes led the Thanksgiving scripture. The group decided to make fruit baskets for the sick people in the area. Mrs. J. C. Watkins will host the Christmas meeting in her home on Dec. 22. Meeting Held The Drewry Homemakers Club met in the home of Mrs. Annie Wilson recently. The president and the club's leader were not present. Mrs. Wilson served her guests delicious refreshments. The Christmas meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Henderson on Dec. 16. Women To Meet The Zion United Methodist Women will nuet Monday at 7:30 p. m. at the parsonage. Births Mr. and Mrs. Ronald H. Anderson of Savannah, Ga., announce the birth of a son, Brett Leneir, on November 24. Mrs. Anderson is the former Miss Debra Martin, granddaughter of Mrs. D. R. Moore of Norlina. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Robert Bender of Ridgeway announce the birth of a son, Brian Thomas, Nov. 4 at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson. Mrs. Bender is the former Annie Kee Lifsey of Norlina. .1 Debbie Knight of Norlina, far right, poses above with ECU co-runners who helped carry the torch during the long "Women on the Move" run last month. Knight Carries Torch In Run Norlina native Debbie Knight, a senior at East Carolina University and a physical education major, was one of seven runners from the ECU women's track team to carry the torch Oct. 20 for "Women on the Move." The long run which began in September in Seneca Falls, N. Y., and ended in November in Houston, Tex., was sponsored by the National Organization of Women as part of its International Women's ye3r observations. Its purpose, according to the sponsors, was to unite women in a common effort to be successful. Circle Meets Mrs. Ann Mulchi entertained the Annie Armstrong Circle of the Norlina Baptist Church on Monday evening, Nov. 28. Mrs. Beatrice Setzer opened the meeting by reading scripture from John 3:16 and a poem entitled "Welfare." Mrs. Nellie Mulchi led the opening prayer. The business followed. The sick and shut-ins were remembered. The Week of Prayeris Dec. 5 through 9. Mrs. Setzer and Mrs. Ann Mulchi gave an interesting program on the "Life and Faith of the Japanese People in Korea." Mrs. Ann Mulchi gave the closing prayer. For the social hour the hostess served punch and hors d'oeuvres. Hosts Bridge Club Mrs. John Clarke hosted the Norlina Bridge Club on Tuesday, Nov. 22. The high score player was Mrs. Minnie Cawthorne: Mrs. B. A. Thaxton was second high and Mrs. Earl Stegall won the bingo hand. Mrs. Clarke served a salad plate and coffee. Noilh Carolina coordinator of runners was Laurie Arrants, woman's track ?oach at ECU. North Carolina participants covered 50 miles a day on their run from the Virginia state line to Charlotte. All runners will have their names inscribed in a bound volume and placed in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. D. C. An escort car for the runners was furnished by Women Sports magazine. Miss Knight is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Knight of Norlina Projects Planned By Junior Women The Norlina Junior Woman's Club held their November meeting in the home of Mrs. Alice King. The meeting was called to order by Ms. Mary Lou Lewis who also led the group in the devotions. The club's main concern is helping the needy people in the community. During tte/ta^eting the members to make a "care" package for a needy family and to donate a Christmas gift to a foster child in Warren County. The attending club members decided to hold the annual Christmas party at the Middleburg Steak House on Dec. 1. They also planned a membership drive which includes a Coke party in the home of Mrs. Nancy Paynter on Jan. 5 to entertain prospective new members. Dinner Slated The United Methodist Women in Circles 1 and 2 of Jerusalem Methodist Church will have their Christmas covered-dish dinner on Dec. 8 at 6:30 p. m. in the church.
