Miss Selma King Weds In Stokes Ceremony The marriage of Selma Delores King, daughter of Mrs. Mable King and the late Vance E King of Henderson, and William Stanley Cherry. Jr., was solemnized Saturday after noon at 2 p. m. in the Stokes Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Howard officiating. The bridegroom's parents are Mr and Mrs. William Stanley Cherry of Stokes A program of wedding music was rendered by Mrs Jo Lewis of Washington Cuhllin Vanlandingham. soloist, sang "More." "If " and "The Lord's Prayer " The church was centered with 15-branch brass candelabrum holding a massive arrangement of gladioli, chrysanthemum, pompons and carnations in autumn shades, flanked by two 15-branch spiral candelabrum Given in marriage by Fred King, her brother, the" bride wore a floor-length gown of organza and imported Peau D'Ange lace She wore a chapel length illusion mantilla bordered with Peau D'Ange lace and carried a cascading bouquet of white roses > mixed with yellow and bronze pompons Mary Winfield of Greenville served as maid of honor. She wore a rust qiana knit dress with aceompaning illusion cape and carried a nosegav of fall flowers. Christina Cherry of Stokes was a junior bridesmaid She wore an off white, princess, velvet dress with a rust colored trim and carried a basket of fall flowers. Father of the bridegroom was best man Ushers were Hal Watson of Greenville and Bruce Clark of Stokes. Mrs. Marthaleen Webb of Walstonburg directed the wedding. Reception A reception was held at the Stokes community building following the ceremonv. Mr and Mrs. Herman Weilenman of Stokes greet ed the guests. Assisting in serving were Gloria Filing ton. Virginia Vaughan, and Debra Vaughan, all of Henderson Sally Anderson of Bessemer City, Jane Buehlef of Greenville, and Margaret Clark of Stokes. Nita Mansour of Goldsboro presided at the register. After a wedding trip to unannounced points the couple will reside in Stokes. The bride attended East Carolina University where she received a B. S. degree in elementary education. She is currently employed with the Pitt County Schools where she teaches reading at Wellcome Middle School. The bridegroom attended the University of North Carolina. He is currently engaged in farming in the Stokes area. Symphony Slated For Performance The North Carolina Symphony will perform in Rocky Mount this year on Monday, Dec 12. in the Rocky Mount Senior High School Gymnasium at 8:15 p. m. The concert will feature violinist Ruggiero Ricci. John Gosling will conduct the orchestra for the evening concert. Ricci s repertoire is said to be the largest of any violinist now before the public and includes some 60 concerti He has performed more than 4000 recitals and concerts and has probably played more often for more people than any other living violinist. American by both birth and training. Gosling is currently serving his sixth year as artistic director and conductor of the North Carolina Symphony. He has previously served in this capacity with several orchestras including the Erie Philharmonic and the Monterey Symphony Orchestra. A popular guest conductor, he has appeared with a number of orchestras both in the U. S. and world-wide. Gosling is also the founder of "Music from Bear Valley," a festival held each year in California's High Sierra mountains. Following its criticallyacclaimed New York debut it Carnegie Hall in March, he orchestra begins this year its 46th season of concerts. In Honor Society Carlton Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobbit H. Wilson of Rt. 2, Warrenton, was recently inducted into the Alpha Kappa Mu honor society of North Carolina Central University in Durham. Alpha Kappa Mu is the university's honor society and a student must have a grade point average of at least 3.3 and be a junior or senior to be inducted. Carlton is a senior majoring in history. \
