On Campus News From John Graham By Terry Thompson «• I, It's a dream! One-third of the year will be over tomorrow (Friday). Where did it go? (Wherever it went, no one really cares.) Hopefully the rest of the year will be as swift. Last Wednesday, before we had our Thanksgiving holidays, an assembly was held in the auditorium. The choir, under the direction of Mrs. Glendora Powell, sang, "Emmanuel," then Mr. Terry gave remarks. The same night, the senior class sponsored a winter carnival in the basement of the administration building. Different attractions included, pie throwing, ball throwing, bake sale, sitting with Santa, items sold for each of the individual classes and the featured attraction was "Chevy Levy" with his "disco machine." Melissa Exum and Lisa Bobbitt, seniors, attended their governor school's reunion in Winston-Salem at the beautiful Hyatt House last weekend. We know they enjoyed seeing their former roommates once again Monday, cap and gown portraits taken by Rick Campbell returned. Today (Thursday), seniors will ptece orders for graduaticm invitations. (Just one of the many things to do before June!) Also, tonight the varsity and junior varsity boys' basketball teams open the '77-*78 seiason with a home game against Bluestone, Va. Sting 'em, Jackets!! Friday, both the girls' varsity and boys' will face Scotland Neck at home. Game time is 6:30 p. m. Come on out! Tuesday, Dec. 6, Mrs. Virginia Levister will accompany a group of students to St. Augustine's College in Raleigh. Also on Tuesday, Mr. Robert Marlin and Mr. Harold Stegall are planning to take a group of students to the Museum of History in Raleigh. I hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. Monday morning, we all appeared as mindless zombies. Norlina High School ACTIVITIES By Patricia Hicks After returning from the Thanksgiving holidays, N.H.S. students are slowly getting back in the swing of things. Now, the next break that students can look forward to is the Christmas holidays. If anyone happens to visit Norlina High School and wonders where the Christmas music is coming from, it is the chorus practicing for their annual Christmas program. The program date has been set for Dec. 18, at 8 p. m. The Blue Wave Chorus hopes everyone will come and enjoy it. Mr. Bennette came yesterday, Wednesday, to receive orders for caps, gowns and invitations. Juniors, it^is advisable that you start saving your money now because being a senior can be very expensive. i Tonight the Blitzing Blue Waves will have their first basketball game of the '77-'78 year. They will host Northwest. This year. Coach Evans has three returning starters from last year's team. They are senior co-captains, David Rowelle and Michael Yancey; and junior, Shelton Hunter. They will start with newcomers; senior, Larry Vaughan, and junior, Darrell Champ. The rest of the team is composed of seniors and juniors. . Coach Evans sees the team to beat this year is Bunn. However, Franklinton could definitely be a challenge. They both have four returning starters. Louisburg and Warrenton are in the rebuilding status but could put forth quite a challenge. Good Luck Waves! SMOKE SIGNALS News Of Warren Academy Oh, what a relief to be back in school! Too much turkey and all the stuffings can be hazardous to our health. But we all enjoyed the break and are now looking forward to the upcoming Christmas holidays. Our second grading period ended Tuesday. When report cards go home Monday, Dec 5, we will see who has buckled down and achieved the basic ingredient of a good education - a lot of studying. Many of us fall short when it comes to studying, and we still expect to make good grades. Monday, Dec. 5, is PTO conference night. Parents, if you need to talk with your child's teacher, please come and do so at this time. The hours are 7:30 p. m. through 9:30 p. m. With cooperation between parents and teachers a solution can be found to many problems that may be plaguing your child. Please come if your child is having problems. We are very proud of the Warren Academy brochure. Our thanks to the ones who are responsible for its publication. Our thanks also to the persons who spent so much time in assembling the material and making such an attractive brochure. Parents, please check with your child if you have not received your brochure yet. We are excited over the basketball season. The teams have been busy with practice and are really looking good. We hope to be able to report wins in our column next week. The game Friday night will be at the Warren Academy gym, and the opposing team will be Wilson Christian Academy. The game will start at 7 p. m. Only the varsity teams will be playing. Come out and enjoy an evening of basketball and give your team a lot of support! Parents Dine At School The student body and staff of North Warren Middle School entertained parents, patrons, and special guests at the annual Parent Day Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Approximately 150 people visited classrooms and lunched with the students. Special guests included members of the Warren County Commissioners, clerical and administrative staff from the superintendent's office, and workers from the schools' transportation and maintenance departments.
