Norlina Native Receives Promotion
Charles Edwards, Merlina
native, is one oí three newly
created executive vice
presidents announced by
Harker Collins, president
and chief executive officer
of Bandag, Inc., of Muscatine,
Iowa. The three vicepresidents
will assume their
new duties on Jan. 1.
Appointed as executive
vice presidents in addition
to Edwards were Eugene E.
Seyb and Harold H. Vischer.
In their new roles these
officers will continué to
serve as members of the
executive committee of the
company, along with Harker
Collins, who is chairman
of the committee.
Collins, in making the
announcement, said the
three executives will report
to him and be responsible
for all major functional
areas of the company

Although the current
organizational structure has
served the company well,
Collins said. sales have
quadrupled during the past
four years. He further
stated that "With our sales
approaching $200 million,
the increased complexity of
our business makes these
changes a positive move for
Coleman Enlists
Charles C. Coleman, son
of Mr. and Mrs. James
Alfred Coleman. of P. O
Box 3, Norlina. has enlisted
in the U. S. Air Foree.
Airman Coleman joined
under the Air Force'.s
Delayed Enlistment Program
(DEP). This program
will allow Airman Coleman,
a sénior at Norlina High
School, to gradúate before
reporting for active duty in
August 1978.
Sergeant Sammy Parsons,
Air Forcé recruiter in
Durham stated that Airman
Coleman successfullv completed
a series of tests which
qualified him for the
seeurity specialist field of
training.

Edwards, formerly sénior

becomes president of Bandag's
Rubber and Equipment
Group. He also serves
as chairman of the board for
the following subsidiarles of
Bandag: Master Processing
Pornnration; Emnle* Industrial
Hose; Bandag Europe,
N. V. and Bandag
Cañada, Ltd., Shainigan,
Quebec. The latter two man
ufacture tread rubber for
Bandag dealers
Edwards, 49, is a native of
Norlina, the son of Warren
County Commissioner Clyde
R. Edwards and the late
Lo rene Hay es Edwards, and
is a gradúate of the Norlina
High School. He joined
Bandag in 1969 after serving
19 years with the Dayco
Corporation, where he held
various executive manufacturing
and engineering
positions in both the
international and domestic
divisions. He was elected to
Bandag's board of directors
in 1973. He is a gradúate of
North Carolina State University
with a degree in
meehanical engineering.
Edwards is active in
numerous civic and professional
activities, including
chairman of the board for
the Muscatine Power and
Water Company. He and his
wife, the former Linda
Williams of Norlina, reside
at 2118 W. Bay Drive in
Muscatine. They ha ve two
grown children.

sium and theater plans as
recommended by the planning
consultant.
Gymnasium facilities at ,
the existing high schools in
Warrenton and Norlina can
be used until the school
board acquires the necessary
funds
The board will convene for
a regular session Dec. 12.
