Project Begins LITTLETON - Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Co. has begun a construction project to increase telephone service capabilities r along ifs 158 east of Littleton. The area has several residential subdivisions including the Roanoke Shores Development on Lake Gaston. The additional facilities should provide service to the area's residential and commercial subscribers for the next 10 years. Approximately 15,000 feet of 600 pair aerial cable is being placed along the route at a cost of $67,000. Presently, 344 telephone lines are working in the area. By October, 1987, 953 lines are expected to be in use. Richard Barnes, Jr., manager for Carolina Telephone in Littleton, said the new cable is being placed aerially instead of underground in order to avoid conflict with highway work being performed by the state highway department. In Memoriam In memory of our dear mother, Mrs. Virgie C. Shearin on her birthday, Dec. 17. It's that time of year dear mama that we miss you so very much, Since God came and took you by His holy touch. We think of you often and would love to see your smiling face, But we know you are happy with God and His angels up there in that Heavenly place. As we sit here tonight, we remember the good times we did share, Of your special kindness and the things you did to show us how much you did care. There have been two new additions to the family since you left your earthly stay, A little boy with golden curls and a little blue eyed girl that's jolly and gay. With each passing day dear mama, we miss you more and more, But some day with God's helping hand, we'll be a family again up there with you upon that beautiful shore.
