SHORT HENDERSON - Funer al services for Oscar Bennett Short, 65, of Rt. 6, Henderson, were conduct ed Saturday at 2 p m from the Cokesbury United Methodist Church by the Rev Michael Safely. Bur ial was in the Liberty Vance United Church of Christ Cemetery. Mr Short, owner and operator of Short's Gro cery in the Cokesbury community, died on Thurs day night at Maria Parham Hospital in Hen derson. He is survived bv his widow, Mrs Tenner Fuller Short; two sons, Wade Short of Carthage and Donnie Short of Hender son; five sisters. Mrs Margaret Gurkins of Ra leigh, Mrs Leslie Mae Johnson of Fuquay-Vari na, Mrs Dorothy McNs mara of Bethesda, Md , Mrs Helen Stanley of Greensboro and Mrs. Elsie Pegram of Henderson; three brothers, Warren Short of Richmond, Va., Lowell Short of Hickory and Macon Short of Oxford; and three grand children Active pallbearers were T P Rose, Wilton Wor tham, Howard Pegram, Brantley Pegram. LOVENA ALSTON Funeral services for Mrs. Lovenia Williams Alston, 93, were conducted on Saturday, December 19, from Ridgeway Baptist Church by the Rev. W T. Ramey, ID, pastor Inter ment was in Snow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Alston had been a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church for 82 years. She moved to Colorado Springs in Octo ber 1977, where she faith fully attended New Jeru salem Baptist Church and was a member of the Mother's Board. She was also a member of the Western Star Mrs Alston died in Colorado Springs, Col., on Dec. 12. The daughter of the late Plummer and Mol lie Austin Williams, Mrs. Alston was born in Warren County on Oct. 15,1888. She was twice married, fjrst to Richard Grey, from which union one daughter, Mrs. Edith Taylor of Richmond, Va., survives. Her second marriage was to Eugene Alston from which union two daugh ters, Mrs. Rosalee Turpin of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Helen I. Savage of Colorado Springs, Colo. Mrs Alston is also survived by two brothers, Eugene Williams of Lis bon, Ohio and Earl Wil liams of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Helen Gills of Norfolk, Va.; 12 grand children; 10 great-grand children, and two gre«u great-grandchildren Nephews served as -ab be arers. Alex Brown, 83, were conducted on Wed nesday, December 16, at 1 p m. from Oak Grove Baptist Church at Littleton by the Rev C. M. McCullom, pastor, and the Rev. W. C. Tabron. Mr. Brown died in Warren General Hospital at Warrenton on December 12 The son of the late Douglas and Carola Brown, he was born in Halifax County on July 28, 1898. He joined the Oak Grove Baptist Church at an early age. He was called to the ministry and ordained in the Reedy Creek Association under the supervision of the late Rev. G. G. Edmonds. He served as the devoted pastor for many years of the following churches: Woodsworth Baptist Church in Vance County, New Liberty Baptist Church in Virginia, White Rock Baptist Church in Granville County, Vaugh an Chapel Baptist Church in Warren County, and the Baltimore Baptist Church in Wa '"'-ounty. MOLLIE BOONE Funeral services for Mrs. Mollie Boone, 83, were conducted on Thurs day, December 17, at 1 p. m. from Pine Chapel Baptist Church at Hollister by the Rev. Robert Burnette. Interment was in the family cemetery. Mrs. Boone died in South Hill, Va., at 2:30 p. m. on December 11. She was the daughter of the late Leonard and Winnie Rich ardson and was born and attended school in Warren County. At an early age she joined the Pine Chapel Baptist Church in Hollis ter. Mrs Boone is survived by her husband, Luther Boone; (our children, Mabel Evans and William 0. Boone, both of Newport News, Va., Caroline Rawles of Suffolk, Va., and Edward Boone of Warren County, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; a brother and several nieces and nephews.
