Warren County, Area Deaths And Funerals EVA POWELL RIGGAN Graveside funeral rites were conducted today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery for Mrs. Eva Powell Riggan. 82, of Route 2, Macon, by the Rev. Martin Arm strong. Mrs. Riggan died at Warren General Hospital Monday. She was the daughter of the late John and Cora Davis Powell and the widow of the late Joe D Riggan She is survived by two sons, Victor H Riggan of Macon and Edward D Riggan of Warrenton; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grand child. ROY E. SMITH Funeral services for Roy E. Smith, 58, were conduct ed Saturday, March 20, at 2 p. m. from Vaughan Chapel Baptist Church at Vaughan, by the Rev M L. Harris. Burial was in Ashley Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Smith, the son of the late Needham and Roxie Smith, died in Lake wood, N. J., on March 12 He was born in Abbottsburg, in Bladen County, N. C. on Sept. 4, 1924 He joined the Asheley Grove Baptist Church at an early age and remained a member until he moved away. He was a resident of Lake wood, N J , at the time of his death He is survived by a former wife, Mrs. Omega Eddy; a daughter, Mrs Hermenia Alston; five sons, Harry, Robert, James, Eugene and Randy Smith, all of Raleigh; one brother, Charlie Smith of Rocky Mount; five sisters, Ruth Robinson of Middle sex, Emma Allen of War ren ton, Mary Hutson of Bronx, N. Y., Margaret Macklin of Philadelphia, Pa., and Sarah Carpenter of Ashburg Park, N. J Nephews were pallbear ers and nieces were floral bearers. JOSEPH P. FAUCETTE LITTLETON - Funeral mass for Joseph Pippen Faucette, 67, of Rt. 3, Littleton, was held Satur day morning at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Roanoke Rap ids Burial was in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Little ton Father Leo-Paul Le Blanc conducted the mass. Faucette died at his home Wednesday. He was a veteran of World War II, a retired employee of New York Central Railroad, president of Linkwood Pallet Corporation, held various capacities with Dorchester Lumber Co. and was president of Wicomico Investors Inc., a real estate developer on Maryland Eastern Shores, New York and Baltimore, Md areas He was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marion Molinari Faucette; his sons, Douglas Paul Fau cette of Gaithersburg, Md , and Todd J. Faucette of Annandale, Va ; his sister, Mrs. Ruby Faucette Sal mon of Littleton; his half brother, Sidney Lee Fau cette of Manassas, Va.; his half-sister, Mrs. Frances Mohanes of Afton, Va ; his step-mother, Mrs. Whit Faucette of Boykins, Va. MITCHELL ROANOKE RAPIDS - Graveside services for Thomas Randolph Mit chell, retired general con tractor of Roanoke Rapids, who died Monday, were held at Calvary United Methodist Church Ceme tery near Littleton at 3 p. m. Tuesday. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Allene S. Mitchell; and two broth ers, Willie Gray Mitchell and Joseph P. Mitchell, both of Littleton. EUGENE W. PERNELL LOUISBUEG - Funeral services for Eugene Wash ington Pernell, 49,of Ral eigh, who died Saturday in an automobile accident, were conducted at 2 p. m. Tuesday from Mount Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the Murray family cemetery. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Audrey Carter Per nell; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Pernell of Raleigh; his mother, Mrs Rosa M. Pernell of Louisburg; two sisters, Mrs. J. B. Bl'RCHETTE Funeral services for Mrs Effie Epps Burchette were conducted at 2 p. m. Sunday from Burchette Chapel Church of Christ by the Rev. R D. Bullock, Jr. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Burchette died on Wednesday of last week at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. She was the daughter of the late Bell Bullock Epps and Robert Epps. She is survived by five daughers, Mrs. Kathleen Sommerville of Manson, Mrs Viola Thomas of Brooklyn, N. Y., Mrs. Iola Harrison of Norlina, Mrs. Beatrice Sota of Bay shore, N. Y., and Mrs. Sophia Nicholas of Brentwood, N. J.; a brother, Lemon Epps of Manson; 19 grandchil dren, 18 great-grandchil dren, and seven great great-grandchildren. Grandsons served as pallbearers and grand daughters as flower girls. WALTER PARRISH Funeral services for Walter Parrish, 58, were conducted on Sunday, March 21, from Harris Turner Funeral Chapel ii Warrenton by the Rev J B. Wilson. Burial was ii the Burchette Unite* Church of Christ Ceme tery. Mr. Parrish, the son o the late Louis and Lucilli Parrish, was born Aug. 26 1924, and died on Marcl 17, 1982. Mason, 87 will be conducted on Satur day, March 27, at 2 p. m from Pine Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Nelson Johnson. The Rev. Mr. Mason, the son of the late Edward and Mary A. Mason, died on Friday, March 19, 1982. He was born in Warren County on March 28,1895 and was the husband of the late Mrs Mamie Haley of War renton. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ida Shearin of Macon; three brothers, Maior. John and Mark Manson of Baltimore, Md.; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday night from 8-9 o'clock at Hawkins Funeral Home in Warren ton. FLOYD A. WALKER LITTLETON - Funeral services for Floyd Allen Walker, 54, were held Sunday, March 14, at 2 p. m. at the Olive Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church gardens. The first item of business following the meal was to elect a secretary for the council. Mrs. Eva Howell was elected to fill that uog In Highway Results In Wreck Efforts to avoid hitting a dog resulted in E. B. Rogers, 54, of Warrenton damaging his station wagon early Saturday night, according to State Trooper Robert Redmond. No charges were filed, but damages in the 6:30 acci dent were estimated at $850. Redmond said that in swerving to miss hitting the dog, Rogers's vehicle ran into the right shoulder of the road, crossed a ditch and struck a ditchbank on U. S. No. 1 about two miles from Warrenton. No per sonal injuries resulted, according to the patrol man. Use our Classified Section office. Mrs. Hunter then provided the group with an update on the activities and accomplishments that have taken place during the 1981-82 school year. The remainder of the program was devoted to an overview of Warren Coun ty Schools' Adopt-A-School program, which encour ages the involvement of volunteers (individuals, business and industry, civic and church groups) in the schools. The council members were given specific ex amples of "adoptions" that had taken place during the present school year. As a I means of demonstration, two of the winners in the Warren County Schools Storytelling Contest enter tained the group with their stories. Russell Norwood told the winning story that he wrote, "The Imitation Haunted House," followed by Carol Swain and her version of "The Creation," by James Weldon Johnson. TTie Storytelling contest in which Norwood and Swain participated was "adopt ed" by Branch Banking and Trust Co., which pro vided savings accounts of varying amounts to the winners.
