Miss Connie Elaine Pendergrass
and Allen Haywood
Pegram were united
in marriage Saturday at 3
p.m. in Cokesbury United
Methodist Church. The
Reverend Michael W
Safley officiated at the
double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr and Mrs. Ernest
Henry Collier of Henderson.
She attended Vance
Senior High School, and
is presently employed as a
cashier at Hardee's.
Parents of the groom are
Mr. and Mrs. William
Haywood Pegram, also of
Henderson. A graduate of
Vance Senior High School,
he is currently employed
by Rose's Merchandise
Company in the shipping
department.
Miss Linda Ann Parrish,
organist, presented a program
of wedding music.
Pianists were Amy Poole
and Eulle Elliott. Keith
Abbott, vocalist, sang
"Endless Love." Poole
sang "You Light Up My
Life" and Elliott sane
"The Wedding Prayer."
Traditional wedding
marches were rendered by
Miss Parrish.
The sanctuary was decorated
with twin massive
silk arrangements of white
gladiolus, roses and carnations
flanked by triple
brass candleholders bearing
burning white tapers.
Family pews were marked
by white silk roses and
carnations tied with white
satin streamers. The couple
used a kneeling bench
for the wedding prayer.
Presented and given in
marriage by her father,
the bride wore a formal
gown of sheer organza and
lace, lined with taffeta and
accented with lace appliques.
Bead trim outlined
the Queen Anne neckline.
The gown featured a
slightly raised waistline,
bishop sleeves and flounced
hemline. A chapel
length train was attached
to the back of the gown
Her headpiece featured
lace and simulated beaded
trim with a blusher nylon
net veil accented with lace
trim matching her gown
Mrs. Betty Jean Moss
served as her sister's
matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Miss
Barbara Pendergrass, sister
of the bride, Mrs. Jenny
Pegram, sister-in-law of
the groom, and Mrs Katie
Harris, all of Henderson
Miss Robin Gupton of
Spring Hope was flower
girl.

Cake-Cutting
Following the wedding
rehearsal on Friday evening,
the pair was honored
at a cake-cutting hosted by
the groom's parents in the
fellowship hall of Cokesbury
United Methodist
Church.
Guests were greeted on
arrival by Mr. and Mrs.
Clyde Roberson.

Nomination To
USAF Academy
John Phillip Shearin. son
of Mrs. Elizabeth Davis
Shearin and the late Phillip
H. Shearin of the A vent on
community of Nash County
and grandson of Mr. and
Mrs. John Carey Davis of
Inez, has accepted an
appointment to the United
States Air Force Academy,
Colorado Springs, Col.
Shearin was nominated
by Congressman L. H.
Fountain of the Second
Congressional District and
U. S. Sen. John P. East.
The appointment was then
granted by the academy.
A senior at Rocky Mount
Academy, Shearin has
been active in school,
community and church
activities. He has lettered
in basketball, baseball and
soccer and is currently
serving as editor of the
school yearbook, president
of the National Honor
Society and captain of the
Rocky Mount Academy
Academic Bowl Team. He
was a John Motley Morehead
Scholarship nominee
and attended a presidential
classroom for Young
Americans in Washington,
D. C.
Shearin is a member of
Fishing Creek Baptist
Church.

overlaid with white lace,
was centered with an
arrangement of silk gladiolus,
roses and carnations
flanked by crystal candleholders
bearing white
burning tapers. White
satin bows adorned the
corners of the table. One
end of the table held a
three tiered wedding cake
while the opposite end was
graced with a silver tray
holding a silver punch
bowl. After the bride and
groom cut the traditional
first slice of cake, serving
was continued by Mrs.
George Wheeler Pegram,
Sr. Mrs. Elmus Gray
Pegram poured lime bridal
punch. Aunts of the honored
couple assisted in
serving finger sandwiches,
mints, potato chips, cheese
and sausage balls, mixed
nuts and fancy mints.

Miscellaneous Shower
The fellowship hall of
Cokesbury United Methodist
Church was the setting
for a miscellaneous shower
hosted for the pair by the
groom's aunts.
Upon arrival, the brideelect
was presented a pink
silk chiffon gardenia corsage.
Guests were registered
by Mrs. J. T. Abbott. Mrs.
Jessie Ray Pegram recorded
the gifts.
Refreshments of punch,
bridal cake squares, nuts,
cheese straws and mints
were served to approximately
70 guests.
Special guests were Mrs.

Held On Saturday
The wedding of Miss
Nancy Etta Gardner and
Donald Clark Skeen took
place Saturday, April 17 at
2 p. m. in Front Street
United Methodist Church
in Burlington.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Winfield
Scott Gardner of Burlington,
and the granddaughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs.
James Herbert Gardner of
Macon.
North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, is controller of the
dealer division of Builder
Marts of America, Inc. in
Greenville. He is a
member of the North
Carolina Association of
Public Accountants and
the American Institute of
CPAs.
The couple will make
their home in Greenville,
S. C.
The groom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
Donald Skeen of Denton.
Dr. Robert McKenzie officiated
at the ceremony,
and a program of music
was presented by Dale
Caldwell, organist, and
Mrs. Nimrod Harris, Jr.,
soloist.
Given in marriage by
her father, the bride wore
her mother's wedding
gown of ivory satin. It
featured a satin bertha and
yoke of chantilly lace, and
the cathedral length veil of
ivory illusion fell from a
Juliet cap of satin and lace.
Mrs. Earl Bandy Fuller,
Jr. of Ellijay, Ga., sister of
the bride, was matron of
honor, and the bride's
cousin, Laura Egerton
Edwards of High Point,
was a junior bridesmaid.
Miss Edwards is the
granddaughter of Mr. and
Mrs J. Allen Tucker of
Warrenton.
The groom's father
served as best man. Ushers
were Ricky Skeen of
Denton, James H. Gardner,
H of Burlington, Louis
Crawley of Greenville, S.
C., and Glen Helms of

Jason Skeen of Denton,
nephew of the groom, was

S. degree in pharmacy

Pharmacy and will be
employed as a pharmacist
in Greenville, S. C. She is a
member of the North Carolina
Pharmaceutical Association
and past president
of the Alamance County
Pharmaceutical Society.

a B.S. degree in
business administration
with a specialty in accounting

Kristina Ann, on April 27.

Feted On Anniversary

He id celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary at
their home in Macon on
Saturday. TTieir children
and grandchildren honored
them with an outdoor
dinner of pork barbecue,
brunswick stew, slaw,
rolls, tea and drinks. A
three-tiered anniversary
cake decorated in green
and gold was served for
dessert.
Mr. and Mrs. Reid
received many useful gifts
from relatives and close
friends. Their children and
grandchildren presented
them with a family money
tree trimmed with gold
ribbons.
