Littleton Man Drowns In Lake Monday Afternoon ROANOKE RAPIDS-A Littleton man drowned in Gaston Lake Monday after be let go of an inner tube in 5 feet of water and began swimming to shore. Donald Drumgold, 21, of RL 2, Littleton, was with a group of people, said EMridge L. Emrey, com mander of the Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad. The drowning was ruled accidental by the Halifax County Sheriff's Department, which plans no further investigation, Emrey said. The drowning occurred at about 4:90 p. m., and Drumgold's body was recovered at about 7 p. m., Emrey said. Mr. and Mrs. Sandy L. Towns Infant Wins Baby Contest Sandy L. Towns, Jr., son of Sandy L. Towns, Sr. and Alfreda Robinson Towns, Sunday was crown ed Master Political Action Council in a baby contest sponsored by Frank W. Adult Screening Being Planned By Health Dept. Beginning July 6, the Warren County Health Department will offer adult screening for major disorders and diseases such as cancer, diabetes, tuberculosis, and hyper tension, according to Joe Lennon, county health director. The screenings will be available each Tuesday from 8:30 a. m. to 1:30 p. m. for indigent adults and adults without a family physician. Each screening session should take about 45 minutes, and will be conducted by Mrs. Betty Lynn Johnson, physician's assistant with the department. There is a charge of $15 for the screening. However, it will be adjusted according to the patient's ability to pay. Adults, age 18 and up, should contact the County Health Depart ment at 257-1185 to make an appointment for the screening or to obtain further information. The second-place winner was Miss Adrienne M. Brown, daughter of Joan and McCoin Brown of Warrenton. Third-place honors went to Arthur W. Mills, son of James and Jean Mills of Scotland Neck. Hawkins. Deaths, Funerals JOSEPH L. COBB Funeral services for Joseph Lloyd Cobb, 74, of Norlina will be conducted from the Norlina United Methodist Church Thurs day at 3 p. m. Burial will be in Warren Dale Cemetery at Norlina. Mr. Cobb died in Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Va. Tuesday following several years of declining health. Travel Packing Is Theme Of 4-H Program "Packing for Travel" was the topifc used by Mrs. Bertha Forte as she spoke to the Best Better 4-H Club at its regular meeting held recently at Mariam Boyd School. Mrs. Forte urged 4-H members not to depend on mother for everything but to show responsibility in making plans, especially those relating to travel. Packing for a trip should not be done at the last minute, but should start early with the making of a list of articles, and checking them off as they are put in the travel bag. She also told 4-H members how important it is to always be prepared by having a first aid and sewing kit. Mrs. Forte's presenta tion was most fitting as 4-H members will be attending 4-H Camp, 4-H Congress, summer school and the annual 4-H summer trip. The meeting was called to order by George Franklin, president. After the pledges, the devotion was led by Maggie Patrick, devotional leader. Mrs. Arrington gave a report on the Leaders' As sociation and 4-H members gave a review of the work of the County Council. July 5 wiU be spent traveling to Cincin nati, Ohio where a tour of Kings Island on July 6 is planned. July 7 will be another day of travel to Knoxville, Tenn. with a stop and tour of the America Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Lionesses Meet The Warrenton Lioness Club met with the Lions as their guests on June 26 for a barbecue dinner and dance.
