First Homecoming Events Scheduled Warm County High Schpol will celebrate its flrat fcwMwnim on Friday with the following events: Homecoming parade, beginning at 4 p. m. at Martam Boyd Elementary School on Main Street in Warrenton and ending at John Graham Middle School. Fried chicken dinner, from 5:00 until 7:30 p. m. in John Graham Middle School cafeteria. The cost is $3, and take-out orders will be available. Football game beginning at 8 p. m. Warren County High School will play NorthamptonEast. Homecoming dance, 10:90 p. m. until 12:90 a. m. at John Graham Middle School gym. Admission is $1. All students, alumni, friends, and supporters are invited to join in the homecoming celebration, according to Bob Ross, athletic director. At John Grahom Computer Talk Heard By EVELYN HALL The eighth grade wishes to thank Costell Evans, assistant principal at Warren County High School, for his visit Thursday. Evans spoke on the subject of computers in the schools and allowed students to participate by using the computer. Girls basketball tryouts at John Graham are scheduled for Monday at 2:45 p.. m. The girls coach is Miss Laura Spell. Congratulations to the Yellow Jackets for their victory Thursday over Roanoke Rapids. The score was 14-8. Chris Privett intercepted a pass and ran 40 yards for a touchdown. Privett also scored a touchdown on a sixyard run. Privett ran for the point after touchdown. Privett rushed for 78 yards. Marvin Harrison and Mark Pitchford were also offensive leaders. Donnell Kearney was the leader for the John Graham defense. John Graham travels to Weldon today (Wednesday) . Game time is 4 p. m. Hawkins Students On Honor List The following students were named to the Principal's list at John R. The principal's office also announced that approximately 100 parents attended the second PTA meeting held recently. Fund-raising plans were finalized, and parents visited teachers in the classroom. Retired Persons Have Meeting The Warren County Unit of North Carolina Retired Persons met in the John Graham Library Thursday. Mrs. Ada Waller, president, presided. Mrs. Myrtice Williams, and Mrs. Mabel Williams, who attended the district meeting in Raleigh, gave high Greenville Race Slated A 10-kilometer race and a two mile "fun run" will be held in Greenville Saturday beginning at 9 a. m. Jim Bailey, director of the races, "October Run," said that more than 40 runners from Warren County participated in last year's event. There is a $5 entry fee for the race, and the fee will entitle each runner to a T-shirt, race number and a coupon for $5 off a pair of Converse running shoes. Participants will meet behind the Belk Department Store in the Carolina East Mall at the intersection of N. C. 264-Bypass and Highway 11-S. Proceeds from the race will go to the Boys' Club. On Monday die Waves scored an 18-8 victory over the Chaloner Middle School -i Roanoke Rapids. .*andy Jordan scored his first touchdown of the season. The other two touchdowns were scored by Willie Burchette. On Thursday the Waves were not so fortunate; they were defeated by Weldon 14-12. Randy and Willie scored one touchdown each. We play our last game at home at 4 o'clock today (Wednesday). Sock it to 'em, Waves! During the next month we will devote part of this column each week to activities in the different communities. Mrs. Townes and Mr. Fuller keep their seventh grade community students very busy. In science Mrs. Townes has students creating examples of food chains, carbon dioxide cycles, and nitrogen cycles. In her math classes students are currently working on equations and word problems. Each Friday in Mr. Fuller's reading class students are required to tell something about a book from the library. The class is really enjoying "Herbie's Ride," a portion of Herman Wouk's "The Smoke Signals Cage Practice Set Warren Academy boys and girls are preparing for their first basketball practice Monday. The varsity team will be coached by Dickie Williams. The junior varsity team will be coached by Bobby and Sidney Fleming. Varsity cheerleaders have been chosen for the new school year. They are: Gina Phillips, Debra Brown, Rebecca Harris, Lisa Edmonds, and Lori Ann Pittman. Mr. Fuller does his instructing; then he divides the class into small groups. These groups work together, using games, worksheets and question and answer sessions.
