Mrs. Steve Brooks and children, Spence and Hunter, of Louisburg were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hunter. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Tucker were in High Point last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Edwards and daughters, Laura Egerton and VeeVee. Here from Charlotte for a visit with Mrs. E. R. Wood were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Marty Allen and son, Ander son, spent the weekend in Smithfield, with Mrs. Allen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ray. Miss Leigh Ellen Bearfield and Chuck Salmon of Raleigh visited Miss Nancy Mullinax and Rodney Stamper during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Lee returned Monday to their home on Bragg Street after spending two weeks in Blowing Rock and Latta, S. C. due to the illness and death of Mr. Lee's mother, Mrs. Annie I-ee. Attending the funeral of Mrs. Lee on Thurs day in Latta, S. C. were Www Mr. and Mrs. James Frazier, Mrs. Tim Thompson and Mrs. George Franklin. Mrs. Burgess Urquhart and daughters Lela and Clara of Lewis ton, spent the weekend here with Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Holt. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Elam, Jr. were in Was/f ington, D. C. for the weekend. Mrs. Herman Rodwell had as her guest last week her daughter, Mrs. Parks King, of Char lotte. Mrs. W. Duke Jones returned Monday from Lexington after a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Bob Husted, Mr. Husted and daughter, Carty. A1 Williams of Raleigh was here for a weekend visit with his mother, Mrs. A. A. Williams, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Palmer were in Chapel Hill last weekend for a visit with relatives and for Mr. Palmer to attend a seminar at the univer sity on capitalism and religion. Mrs. Lillian Wemyss has returned from a weeks' visit in Raleigh with her sister, Mrs. E. P. King. Mrs. J. E. Cheves has as her weekend guest, her nephew, Pat John son of Portsmouth, Va. Mrs. W. F. Farmer WW was in New Bern last weekend to attend a symposium on antiques. She joined her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Henry o< Wendell, for the trip. Mrs. Clyde Rodwell spent Sunday in Wilson with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Clyde Harris. Mrs. Gladys King spent last week in Raleigh with her daughters, Mrs. Rebec ca Murray and Mrs. Juanita Coley. Miss Tracy Fowler, student at N. C. State University, Raleigh, was here last weekend for a visit with her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Fowler. W. S. Gardner of Burlington was here last week for a visit with his sister, Mrs. J. A. Tucker and Mr. Tucker. Mr. and Mrs. Sol Fleming were in Rich mond on Saturday due to the death of his sister. Birth Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Tucker of Henderson an nounce the birth of a son, Jeremy Gordon, on March 19 at Maria Parham Hospital. Mrs. Tucker is the former Pam Haithcock. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Haith cock of Warrenton. Sperm Whales Sperm whales fuel their bodies with an average of 800 pounds of squid and fish each day. CHEEK Miss Smith Marries Daniel H. Cheek In a Saturday cere mony at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, Miss Sue Ellen Smith of Raleigh and Daniel H. Cheek of Warrenton were united in marriage. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Wedding Plans Are Announced Mr. and Mrs. George H. Steele, Jr. of Greens boro announce the engagement of their daughter, Corinne Kathryn Steele, to Lemuel Weyher Korne gay, III, son of Dr. and Mrs. Lemuel W. Korne gay, Jr. of Rocky Mount. The wedding is plan ned for May 4 at 3 p. m. in Greensboro at The Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. The bride-elect is a graduate of Catawba College and attended the Meredith College Paralegal Program. She is employed with the law firm of Harris, Cheshire, Leager and Southern. Komegay is a gradu ate of N. C. State Uni versity and is employed by Pittman and Associ ates as a financial plan ner. Mrs. Joseph E. Smith, Sr. of Raleigh. Parents of the bridegroom are Sam P. Cheek, Sr. of Warrenton and the late Nellie Hudgins Cheek. After a reception at the church, the couple left on their wedding trip to Florida. They will live in Raleigh. The bride is a graduate of Needham B. Broughton High School and Troutman's College of Hairstyling. She is a clerk-typist with the Division of Health Ser vices in Raleigh. Her father is a retired plumbing and heating contractor with Smith Plumbing and Heating Company. The groom is a gradu ate of Appalachian State University. He is a respiratory therapy technician with Glas rock Home Health Care. His father is retired. Holy Week Plans Are Outlined By Area Methodists Holy Week will be celebrated by Warren County United Meth odists with a worship ser vice each night from Palm Sunday, March 31, through Good Friday, April 5. All services will begin at 7:30 p.m. The schedule for ser vices is as follows: Palm Sunday, Pro vidence Church with the Rev. Charles Cooper, pastor of Bethlehem Shady Grove Charge, preaching; Monday, Shady Grove Church with the Rev. Verne Womack, pastor of Jerusalem-Zion Charge, preaching. Tuesday, Macon Church with the Rev. Kevin Stroop, pastor of Warren Charge preach ing; Wednesday, Jerusa lem Church with the Rev. Jon Strother, pastor of Macon Charge, preaching; Maundy Thursday, Wesley Memorial Church with the Rev. Gene Cobb, pastor of Norlina Church, preaching and the Rev. Dr. And Mrs. Selby Give Talk On Wales To Local Clubwomen Dr. and Mrs. Ray Selby spoke to members of the Warrenton Woman's Club Thurs day evening. They related {acts of interest •bout Wales and showed a number of articles from Wales as well. Dr- and Mrs. Selby have been in Warrenton for three years during this, their second stay here. Dr. Selby is rector of Emanuel Episcopal Church and he and his wife will return to England in June. During the presenta tion, the Selbys com pared Wales to North Carolina, noting that Wales is about one seventh the size of our state. Dr. Selby noted that the population of Wales is about two million, with almost as many sheep. Mrs. Selby displayed dolls in the usual attire of the Welsh people. They related in teresting facts about their marriage and travels and showed pic tures of their 300-year old cottage in Wales. The couple ended their program with the singing of the National Anthem in Welsh. Mrs. Louise Twitty presided over the meeting folowing a meal arranged by the hostess es, Mrs. Ersie Neal and Mrs. Marion Hull. Mrs. Thomas Gaskili led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mrs. Richard Davis read the minutes, followed by the treasurer's report by Mrs. Hy Diamond. During the committee reports, Mrs. Roger Limer commented for the International Affairs Department. Mrs. Howard Daniel gave a report on a book entitled "Lady Washington," by Dorothy Clark for the Education Department. Mrs. Robert Allen reported on Home Life projects for March, and Mrs. G. B. Hull present ed a vial of life to each member, with instruc tions for use and pur pose. Following various items of business, the meeting was adjourned by the president Annual Egg Hunt Set The Cherry Hill Historical Foundation will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt on the lawn at Cherry Hill on Monday, April 8. Activi ties will begin at 11 a. m. and are open to children of all ages. Four hunts will take place simul taneously, and partici pation will be deter mined by are: two years and under; three to six years; seven and eight years; and nine years and over. A prize will be awarded in each category. Cherry Hill, the plan tation home of George W. Alson, was built in 1858 and is now operated by the Cherry Hill Historical Foundation. It is included on the U. S. Department of the Inter ior's National Register of Historic Places. Cherry Hill is located on N. C. Highway 58 at Inez in southern Warren County within easy driv ing distance from Raleigh and the Re search Triangle Park (one hour), Rocky Mount (45 minutes) and Henderson (30 minutes). The Easter Egg Hunt is free and open to the general public. It is one of many annual activi ties sponsored by the Association in its policy of easy access to Cherry Hill for all ages. All children should be ac companied by an adult.
