Zion Club Meets
In Ranes Home

The Zion Home Extension
Homemakers' Club
met in the home of Mrs.
Louise Ranes on Thursday.
The meeting was
called to order by the
president, Mrs. Richard
Holtzmann. She also
gave the devotions from
John 3:3 after which all
joined in singing "Sweet
Hour of Prayer."
The roll was answered
by all telling where
they went to school.
Miss Margaret Wood,
extension agent showed
slides on outdoor living
emphasizing enjoying
one's own back yard.
Twenty-five dollars
was given to the fireman's
relief fund.
Hefreshments were
enjoyed by all.
Prayer Group
Has Gathering
The Mattie Pridgen
Prayer Group met Monday,
June 24, at 10 a. m.
with Mrs. John Smiley
with five members present.
Mrs. Alice Stultz
opened the meeting with
prayer for the sick and
for the hostages.
The Mission Action
this month was making
health packages for
migrant workers'
children.
Mrs. Eleanor Hayes,
chairman, gave an interesting
program on
"Women to Woman
Ministry on Missions."
She also read the birthday
prayer calendar.
The meeting was
closed with sentence
prayers.
The hostess served refreshments.
Drewry Women
Have Meeting
The United Methodist
Women of Drewry met in
the home of Louise
Ranes Thursday night.
The meeting was called
to order by the
president.
Mollie Paschall read a
selection on the salt of
the earth.
Mrs. Ranes gave the
devotion and program.
Mrs. Ranes served
delicious refreshments
to the nine members
present.
The July meeting will
be family night with a
picnic at the home of
Mollie Paschall July 25
at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting was closed
by singing of "Blest
Be the Tie."

Bicycle Manufacturers Association
of America Figures
show that bike sales rose from
3.7 million in 1960 to a peak
of 13.2 million in 1973, surpassing
automobile sales.
Nine milion bicycles were sold
in the country in 1983. The
same year, says the National
Safety Council, 1,100 cyclists
were killed in the United
States.

Mrs. Rrenda Bobbitt,
who serves as secretary.

"Salute to the Best of
the Class of 1985."

foster academic excellence
by congratulating
valedictorians and
presenting the
achievers as positive

youth.
Davis is one of 70
valedictorians from
public and private high
schools within the 22county
viewing area to
be shown in a series of
60-second tributes. The
tributes began airing on
June 17. Each student is
highlighted individually

sponsored a luncheon on
Saturday for the
honorees, featuring Dr.
LeRoy Walker, chancelor
of North Carolina
Central University as
guest speaker. Parents
and guidance counselors
also attended a luncheon
and heard remarks by
Paul Bures, WTVD
president and general
manager, and Chrystle
Swain, WTVD community
relations
manager.
