held Sunday, Feb. 12 at Thomas
Chapel Pentecostal Holiness
Church by the Rev. Everette Eat
mon. Burial was in the Jackson
Family Cemetery.
A Warren County native and
longtime member of Thomas
Chapel Pentecostal Holiness
Church, Ayscue was the son of
the late William Thomas and Ef
fie Dickerson Ayscue.
He died Saturday morning,
Feb. 11, at his home.
Survivors include three
daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Dixon
of Oxford and Mrs. Violet F.
Hoyle and Mrs. Patsy Seaman,
both of Henderson ; a son, Mickey
Ayscue of Henderson; three
brothers, Milton Ayscue and
Louis Ayscue, both of Warren
ton, and Horace Ayscue of
Henderson; four sisters, Mrs.
Mattie Rivers of Warrenton and
Mrs. Estelle Edwards, Mrs.
Marie Mauniz and Mrs. Edna Ab
bott, all of Henderson, and six
grandchildren.
Pallbearers were J. H. Smith,
Floyd Pendergrass, Johnny
Dickerson, June Coley, Otha
Hayes, Jr., H. V. Faulkner, Ricky
Abbott and Ruben Perry.

Christinas, Jr., 79, of Warren
Hills Nursing Center, were held
Thursday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at
Snow Hill Baptist Church by the
Rev. A. F. Horton. Burial w^s in
the church cemetery.
The son of the late Burgess
Christmas and Mrs. Mary Jane
Yancey Christmas, he was born
June 19, 1909 and was a member
of Snow Hill Baptist Church. He
died on Friday, Feb. 3, at Com
munity Memorial Hospital in
South Hill, Va.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Flossie Christmas; Mac
M. Davis, whom he reared; one
sister, Mrs. Maggie Perry of
Norlina; seven stepchildren and
seven step-grandchildren.

Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. Coley is the son of the late
Leon Gratus and Mary Shearin
Coley. He is a Korean War
veteran and a retired employee
of Greystone Concrete, Inc.
He died Tuesday, Feb. 14 at his
residence after a long illness.
Survivors include his wife,
Katie N. Coley of the home; two
stepdaughters, Mrs. Alice Del
bridge and Mrs. Diane Rolfe,
both of Roanoke Rapids; three
stepsons, James E. Patrick, Jr.
of Roanoke Rapids, Alton R.
Patrick of Salem, S. C. and David
E. Patrick of Kannapolis; 18
grandchildren; and 18 great
grandchildren.

Mr. Hill was a Halifax County
native and was the son of the late
Bob and Frances Alston Hill.

cal Center after a period of decin
ing health.

Ernest Salmon, 83, were held
Thursday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. by

the Blaylock Funeral Home
Chapel in Littleton. Burial was in
Sunset Hill Cemetery.
A native of Littleton, he was a
self-employed lumber buyer. He
died Tuesday, Feb. 7, at his
residence in Littleton.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Beatrice Newsome Salmon;
one daughter, Mrs. Faye S. Stal
lings of Greenville; one son,
Shelby Salmon of Roanoke Rap
ids; one sister, Mrs. Lula Kidd of
Richmond, Va.; six grandchil
dren and one great-grandchild.

MRS. LAURA W. HARRIS
Funeral services for Mrs.
Laura Williams Harris, 97, will
be held today (Wednesday, Feb.
15) at 1 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist
Church in Littleton by the Rev.
G. E. Battle. Burial will be in the
church cemetery.
A longtime Littleton resident,
Mrs. Harris was born Jan. 21,
1892 and was the daughter of the
late Eddie Williams and Mrs.
Ellen Solomon Williams. A native
of Halifax County, she was a
member of Zion Hill Baptist
Church, where she taught Sunday
school and was a member of the
missionary circle there.
In 1930, she married John D.
Harris, who preceded her in
death. Mrs. Williams died Feb. 9
at Halifax Memorial Hospital in
Roanoke Rapids, following a
brief illness.
Survivors include four sisters,
Mrs. Lizzie Edmonds and Mrs.
Martha Jackson, both of New
York, Mrs. Pollie Ashe of Rocky
Mount, and Mrs. Alice Powell of
Littleton; two stepdaughters,
Mrs. Lucille Allen and Mrs. Alma

Powell Enlists,
Gets Assignment
James Lee Powell, son of Mr.
and Mrs. John W. Powell, Sr. of
Macon, has been assigned to du
ty at Ft. Hood, Tex. He is a 1988
graduate of Warren County High
School.
According to Sgt. 1st Class
Bost, U.S. Army recruiter in
Henderson, Powell enlisted for
training as an infantryman at Ft.
Benning, Ga. While there, he
received training in combat tech
niques, tactics, weapons and bat
tlefield survival.
Ceiling Light Falls,
No One Is Hurt
A ceiling light crashed down
Monday into a John Graham Mid
dle School classroom shattering
glass, but causing no injuries to
the teacher or pupils there.
Mrs. Sarah Beddingfield and 10
students were engaged in instruc
tion in the classroom, which can
accommodate up to 28 students
and is located on the basement
level of the main John Graham
building.
After the fluorescent light had
fallen from the ceiling, Mrs. Bed
dingfield and her charges va
cated the classroom. They have
been reassigned to one of the
other five classroom on the base
ment level of the main building.
On Tuesday, personnel from
the Warren County Schools'
maintenance department re
placed the fixture.
The old auditorium of John
Graham Middle School was con
demned a few years ago, follow
ing the discovery of weaknesses
there. The Warren County Board
of Education has retained the ser
vices of an architectural firm for
the construction of a new middle
school for Warren County.

Walter Harris; and 19 grand
children.

the Zion Hill deacon board and
floral bearers were members of
the deaconess board.
