Strickland is our superintendent; the choir is practicing for the vocal union which will be held at Samaria church, the fifth Suntlay in January. Mr. W. R. Murray called to see the widow, Airs. W. A. Rrantley last Sunday. ' We were very sorry to hear about the death of Mr. Allen Denton’s wife. She leaves a husband and seven chil dren. the youngest being six weeks old. The people around here were very sad over the death of Mr. Roy Tre vathan who was killed in a car wreck near here Christmas Eve day. Miss Edna Wrcnn spent Sunday with Miss Erdean Murray. Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Mitchell of Elm City spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Willie Mitchell. Mr. Worth Pearce called to see Mends in Wake Forest Saturday evening. Hopkins Chapel Miss Mildred King of near Youngs ville was Saturday night guest of H. S. King. Miis Irdell Gay enjoyed Saturday night with Miss Lucille Gay. Miss Willie Etta Perry was the guest of Miss Virginia Mitchell Sat urday night. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Rrannan. of Fort Bragg, were week-end guests of Mrs. Brannan’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Hopkins. Miss Thelma Bunn spent the week end a Wake Forest with Mrs. L. R- Evans. We are glad to know that Mr. W. B. HopkinS is able to attend court at Raleigh after being confined' to his bed a few' days last week. Among those who are attending court in Raleigh this week are: Messrs. L. A. The Woman’s Missionary Society will meet at the church Saturday af ternoon, January 16. at 2:00 o’clock. Spring Hope J. P. Tyree who lived here in the late nineties was buried here Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Tyree will be remem bered by the older citizens of our town. He married Miss Lula Hart of Edgecombe County. He was book keeper for the late B. W. Upchurch and lived here several years. Later moved to Durham where he was with the American Tobacco Company for sometime, and later transferred to Richmond and was in their employ when he was partially paralized sev eral years ago. His wife, son and daughter survive him. Several came from Richmond in the family. Among the Rocky Mount attendants were Mrs. Tyree’s brother Capt. Hart, Capt. and Mrs. McGee. Mr. Nash, from Tarboro. and several others. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. The Rev. Mr. Craighill of the Epis copal church in Rocky Mount conduct ed the funeral services. Miss Dorothy Sanders has accept ed a position as secretary with the Drs. Brantley, succeeding Mrs. N\ H. Stallings who resigned. P. f. Bunn went to Raleigh today. Miss Rachel Tant has been visiting her parents last week-end. OBITUARY NOTICES The community of Poplar Spring was saddened Tuesday morning when they heard of the death of little Don ald Cecil, fifteen months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Rullock. He was laid to rest in the family plot, near the house on Wednesday afternoon, beneath a mound of beau tiful flowers. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Mr. Thompson, of Bunn. A large number of relatives and friends were there, to pay the last tribute of re spect to the little one. He was sick several weeks.
