Commencement exercises at
Rolesville began on Friday eve
ning, April 29, when Miss Ann Cox
presented her senior piano stu
dents in a recital. She presented
additional piano and voice recitals
on May 6 and 15.
Mrs. George Shriver presented
her piano and voice students in a
recital on May 20 in the school
auditorium.
Sermon
Rev. Richard T. Bray, pastor of
the Wake Cross Roads Baptist
Church, delivered the baccalau
reate sermon to the graduating
class Sunday morning, May 22. The
invocation and benediction was
led by Carlyle Woodlief and Carl
Jones, members of the class. The
glee club sang “Recessional” by
De Koven, and the girls’ chorus
sang “God So Loved the World.”

Orientation Day
A- program of orientation will
be presented by the students and
principal on Thursday afternoon
at 1:00 p. m. to forty-two tighth
graders who are expected to re
ceive their certificates at that
time. Rev. John Garner will bring
the message to these students.

Tuberculosis Assn.
E. N. Pope presided at the reg
ular meeting of the board of direc
tors of the Wake County Tubercu
losis Association on Thursday.
New members of the board in
troduced were Mrs. W. C. Roberts
of Rolesville, Mrs. R. C. Nesmith
of Milbrook and Mrs. Julian R.
Nipper of Leesville. Twenty-six
members were present.
Dr. Earl Brian, director of the
free diagnostic clinic, gave the
clinic report and explained the
clinic to new members.
The clinic, which is supported by
the Christmas Seal Sale, was re
sponsible for X-raying 904 per
sons from April 1 to May 19. Os
this number, five active cases of
tuberculosis were found, and eight
cases of non-tuberculosis patholo
gy were referred to physicians and
clinics for further study.
The board authorized the pur
chase of two reels of the film, “In
side Story,” to be shown in the
Raleigh public schools along with
teaching units on tuberculosis.

The $40,000 spent for sewer and
water lines would be the same as
a gift to the property owners, for
it would increase the worth of the
in Wakelon Heights by more than
the amount.
Further, the $40,000 would rep
resent only an initial expenditure.
Probably additional improvement
would be necessary on the water
plant, and the sewage disposal
problem would be greater. In ad
dition, police protection and street
improvements would have to be
provided.
Suggested ways of financing the
$40,000 cost of water and sewer
extensions included: 1) the prop
erty owners paying a share of the
total; 2) the property owners
paying the full cost and adding this
expense to the sales price of the
individual lots; 3) a bond issue;
and 4) a piece-meal extension of
the water and sewer lines, as the
income of the town permits.

I. B. Clark, 59, of Route 2,
Louisburg, died at his home in the
Centerville community Sunday.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.
m. Monday from the Red Bud Bap
tist Church. The Rev. Eugene
Owens and the Rev. Paul Childers
officiated. Burial was in the fam
ily cemetery.
The body was taken to the
church an hour before the servi
ces.
Surviving are his wife, the for
mer Helen Tharrington; two
daughters, Mrs. Andrew Holt of
Philadelphia and Phyllis Clark of
the home; one son, I. B. Clark, Jr.,
of the home; two brothers, F. S.
Clark of Zebulon and Clayborn

Mrs. John N. Turner, 75, died
early Sunday morning at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Roger Bunn,
in Zebulon. Funeral services were
held Monday afternoon at 3
o’clock at the Banks Methodist
Church.
The Rev. W. G. Farrior officiat
ed, assisted by the Rev. Vernon
Brooks. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters,
Mrs. Bunn of Zebulon, and Mrs.
Earl C. Smart of Durham; a son,
John N. Turner of Elizabeth City;
