Duke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Millard Duke, of Zebulon, Route 4, recentily completed the study required by the Wheel Ve hicle Mechanic Course, and was awarded his diploma at 516th Air borne Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Infantry Division, at Ft. Jackson, S. C., after taking his bas ic training at Camp Gordon, Ga. He is now stationed over seas in a Motor Pool with the 42nd Field Hospital at Verdun, France, near Paris. He entered the U. S. Use 1 cup en riched flour, % teaspoon soda, 1 teaspoon each of salt and baking powder, 1 cup enriched corn meal, V\ cup melted shortening or bacon drippings, 2 tablespoons sugar, two eggs well beaten and 1% cups sour or buttermilk. Sift enriched flour with baking soda, salt and baking powder. Mix with enriched corn meal. Combine bacon fat, sugar, eggs. Add sour or butter milk and combine with dry ingre- S dients. Beat only until smooth. Fill well greased muffin tins two thirds full. Bake in hot oven (435 degrees F.) 15 to 20 minutes. Makes 12 to 15 servings. Buttermilk sherbet as a cool, re freshing dessert for the family on a hot summer day. Ingredients: 2 cups buttermilk, 2/3 cup sugar, 1 cup crushed pineapple (drained), 1 teaspoonful vanilla and Vs tea spoon salt. Mix buttermilk with I all other ingredients. Freeze quick ly to a mush. Turn into a bowl and beat with egg beater. Return to tray and complete freezing. COOKING WITH MILK When you are cooking with milk, be* careful not to let it boil. Milk ( scorches easily so you may want 'to use a double boiler. People HINTS TO who do not like the taste of plain milk usually like it combined with other foods in cooked dishes.
