Whitley. Mrs. Estes and son will remain until Wednesday with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Patton and children of Annapolis, Md., spent Sunday night with Mrs. O. B. Spi vey. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Watson and three sons of Franklinton spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Watson. Mr. Watson is now with the National Guard Ra dar School at Fort Monmouth, N. J. Mrs. Watson and sons have just returned from a three months’ stay with her family at Joplin, Mo. Wilbur Conn of the University of North Carolina was a weekend guest of his mother, Mrs. T. M. Conn. Mr. and Mrs. Zollie Culpepper have moved to Washington, D. C., so that Mrs. Culpepper can be with her daughter, Mrs. Milton Jones, during Mrs. Culpepper’s illness. Mr. and Mrs. Ruric Gill’s guests for Thanksgiving were Mrs. Gra ham Dean. Miss Emily Dean, Miss Maggie Dean, Miss Lizzie Dean, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wootton and children, Paula Jo and Lewis, all of Wendell, Mrs. Norman Dean of Murfreesboro, Mrs. Otis Batten and Mrs. Chuck Moore of Kinston, Miss Vicie Poole of Fairmont, Mr. and Mrs. Hendricks and Mr. and Mrs. Ruric Gill, Jr. Mrs. Graham Dean, brother of Mrs. Ruric Gill, is ill and is a pa tient at Rex Hospital. Shirley, Joyce, James George and Bill, brothers and sisters of Percy Parrish, were Thanksgiving guests of Mr. and Mrs. Parrish. Miss Jean Robertson of the Uni versity of North Carolina spent the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Z. J. Robertson. T. Ellett. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Allen Weathersby spent the Thanksgiv ing holidays in South Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Higgins of Spartanburg, S. C., were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Beck. Mr. and Mrs. John Barrow and Margaret were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Barrow of Din widdie, Va. They also visited Mr. Barrow’s niece, Mrs. Eugene Clay of Southerland, Va., and their daughter and family, and Mrs. J. M. Coleman, Jr., of Richmond, Va., while on this trip. Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Wil liams and children of Concord were Thanksgiving guests of Mr. and Mrs. Barker Cannon. Middlesex Party Miss Barbara Nell Hood, who became the bride of Isiah Strick land Sunday afternoon in the Mid dlesex Baptist Church, was hon ored at a bridal shower last Thurs day night by Miss Tillie Fulghum, Miss Betsy Cone and Mrs. Mary Strickland at the Fulghum home in Middlesex. For the occasion the honoree wore a charcoal jumper dress, white blouse and bjlack acces sories and a corsage of red car nations, a gift of the hostesses. Bridal cakes, pickles, potato chips and drinks were served to approximately 50 guests in the dining room. The table was over laid with a white linen cloth and centered with an all-white flower arrangement, flanked by white burning tapers. The green and white bridal motif was used in the decorations. W edding, Miss Rochell Hocutt became the bride of L. Z. Creech, Friday af ternoon at 5:30 at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Charles Carroll of Route 2, Kenly. On the mantel was an ar i rangement of large pompoms and 1 candles. The bride wore a blue tweed suit with navy shoes, bag, and gloves. She wore a pink hat with navy veil and sequins, and match ing blouse. Her corsage was of light pink carnations. After the congratulations were said, guests were invited to the re freshment table which was cov ered with a white linen cloth. An arrangement of tiny white pom poms and candles were used as a centerpiece. The couple will be at home on Route 1, Wendell after a short wedding trip to unannounced points. | j Beauty Operator Mrs. Ethel Edwards is now em ployed with the Elite Beauty Salon. Mrs. Edwards is a 1946 graduate of Carolina Beauty College, and has worked at Stuart’s Beauty Basket and Palmer’s in Raleigh. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Phipps of Chadbourn. Her husband, Atlas, and Mrs. Ed wards reside a few miles out on | Highway 64. i Mrs. Nellie Kemp, owner of Elite Beauty Salon, said that she j feels that she is very fortunate in obtaining Mrs. Edwards. Telephone 3081 Tuesday, November 29, 1955 Wedding, The Middlesex Baptist Church was the scene of the afternoon wedding Nov. 20 of Miss Barbara Nell Hood and Isaiah Strickland. The Rev. Frank Zedick officiated. The bride is the daughter of Grady Hood of Stantonsburg and the late Mrs. Hood. The bride groom is the son of Mrs. A. T. Strickland of Middlesex and the late Mr. Strickland. Mrs. Annie V. Hilliard, organist, a.id Mrs. Frank Zedick, soloist, presented the wedding music. The couple entered the church together. The bride wore a balle rina gown of silk and lace with a princess bodice and lace jacket with mandarin neckline and sweep skirt. Her shoulder veil of silk illusion was attached to a coro net of seed pdhrls. She carried a white prayer book topped with a white orchid. The maid of honor with Miss Tillie Fulghum and she wore an aqua gown of crystalette with a sweetheart neckline. She wore a bandeau of matching crystalette and carried yellok shasta daisies. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Theodis Strickland, as best man. Ushers were Franklin Lewis, cousin of the bride, and Leonard Lewis, Jr. Mrs. Hood, stepmother of the bride, wore a blue suit with brown accessories and an orchid corsage. The mother of the bride-groom wore a gray dress with black ac cessories and an orchid corsage. Dr. Binkley Speaks Dr. Olin T. Binkley, professor of Sociology and Ethics at South eastern Seminary, was the princi pal speaker at the Ingathering Ser vice last Thursday night at Hales Chapel Church. Dr. Binkley’s topic was “For We Are Laborers Together with God.” He cited there are three things the churrh needs to do: 1) Draw in to a deeper knowledge with God; 2) Strengthen its devotion to Christ; and 3) Draw into a closer love for one another.
