SOCIETY NEWS Marlowe and Finch Monson of Charlotte, grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Finch, are spend ing some time with their grand parents here. • Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Flowers and child of Cherry Point spent the week end with his mother, Mrs. S. G. Flowers Sr. • Mr. and Mrs. Fred Josey and son of York, Pa., stopped here to visit his aunt, Mrs. Wallace Cham blee, while enroute to visit rela tives in Milledgeville, Ga. • Myron Grote of New York City was here last week having dental work done. He is the brother-in law of Mrs. Wallace Chamblee. Five couples held a tenting party at Buggs Island last week. They were Mr. and Mrs. George Crowder, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Deb nam, Mr. and Mrs. Braxton Ed dins and Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Grimes. • Mrs. Sherwood Chamblee and son, Harry, and Miss Jackie Cur rin vacationed in Washington, D. C., and Falls Church, Va., last week. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Chamblee’s brother and faimily, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Wright. Reverend and Mrs. John Whid den have as their guests, Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Griffin and daughter Barbara of Lake Wales, Florida. Mrs. Griffin is Reverend Whid den’s sister. • Mr. and Mrs. Ned Moss of Charlotte visited the Carl Bakers and the Raleigh Mosses over the week end. • Mrs. Ferd Davis spent last week end with her husband who is attending National War College at Ft. Lesley J. McNair. While in Washington the couple attended a performance of “Music Man”. • Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bunn spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peffer of Colonial Heights, Va. Mrs. Peffer is ill but is re covering splendidly. King, Jr., announce the birth of a son, Wil liam Gray, Tuesday, July 11, at Rex Hospital, Mrs. King is the former Rose Marie Yancev. Marriage Announced The marriage of Miss Carolyn Bunn and Donald Wayne Driver was solemnized Sunday, July 9, in Dillon, S. C. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bunn of Route 3, Zebulon, and' he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raeford Driv er of Route 4, Zebulon. .The 'bride and bridegroom are both graduates of Wakelon High School. She attended Atlantic Christian College and is employed with the Wake County ASC office. He is associated with Noland Company of Raleigh. The couple is residing in Ra leigh. Martins Entertain Mr. and Mrs. Brodie Martin re cently entertained Mr. and Mrs. Norwood Martin at a luncheon. Mr. and Mrs. Norwood Martin are newly weds. Guests were the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thel bert Creech, Mr. and Mrs. Doug las Creech, Mr. and Mrs. Randy Creech and Joel Ray Creech. The luncheon was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Brodie Martin. PLEASANT HILL NEWS Mrs. T. Y. Puryear Flowers were placed in the church Sunday by the Willie Lee Currins in memory of their son, Lee Roy. The General Meeting for the WMU was Monday night at the Community Center. Mrs. W. C. Atkinson, associational W. M. S. President, was the speaker. The Lizzie Winston Circle was hostess. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Philips and sons, Michrel Terry and Hal, were Sunday guests of the K. R. Hin nants. Mr. ana Mrs. £. v. Knoaes ana grandchildren, Bettie and Vance Rhodes, had dinner with their daughter and family, Mrs. Oliver Horton of Raleigh. Visitors Saturday afternoon at the E. V. Rhodes were Drexel Rhodes of Hopkins Cross Roads, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Craft of Mar tin Center, and the John Perrys of Wendell. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Gay spent Sunday with the Joseph Tuckers in Durham. Mr. and Mrs. Elton Haswell and Mr. and Mrs. Morton Haswell of Durham were visitors at the Gratis Haswells Sunday. Grand children Sandra and Brenda Has well of Wendell spent the week end with their grandparents. Drexel Gay, son of J. T. Gay, of the National Guard is in train ing for six months at Fort Jack son, S. C. Mrs. M. L. Hagwood, center seated, was installed June 28 as president of Zebulon Lioness Club. To her left, seated, is Mrs. Frank Kemp, and to her right is Mrs. Crafton Hudson, retiring president. Sermon Topics Listed For Methodist Church The sermon topics for Sunday, July 16, at the Zebulon Methodist Church are announced by the minister the Rev. Bill Quick. “Encouraged or Discouraged?” is the 11:00 a.m. topic. Music will be by the Chancel Choir. The Sunday night topic at 8:00 p.m. will be, “Using Your Handi caps”. The evening service will be pre ceded by the Junior High Fellow ship at 6:00 and the Senior High Fellowship at 6:30. K5he own Crier ATTENDS NEA CONVENTION . . . Gladys (Mrs. B. H.) Johnson, newly appointed secretary of the Nash County unit of the Ciassroom Teachers Association of America and a fourth grade teacher in the Middlesex school system, attended the National Education Association’s annual convention in Atlantic City, N. J„ June 25-30. Some of the program personalities included Senator Wayne Morse of Oregon, Senator Oren E. Long of Hawaii, Dr. Jonas E. Sails, discoverer of the polio vaccine; Sargent Shriver, director of President Kennedy’s Peace Corps; and Sam Levinson, television personality. Mrs. Johnson said some of the resolutions concerned the teacher’s rights as a citizen, federal support of education, teacher salaries, international relations, juvenile delinquency, teacher evaluation, desegregation, pupil safety, urban problems, teacher-board of education relationships, and strengthening school districts. Mrs. Johnson said the whole convention was built around human relations and world events as they relate to education. Mrs. W. F. Powell, eighth grade teacher in the Middlesex School and newly appointed president of the Nash County unit of the CTA, also attended the convention. FULL PROFESSOR ... Dr. Charles E. Flowers, Jr. w s made a full professor July 1 in the University of North Carolina Mecl.c.;! College. He had been .serving as assistant. A graduate of Citadel and Johns Hopkins Medical College, he is married to the former Juanita Bayes of Jackson, Ky. They have two children, Charles III and Carmen, 7. Mrs. Flowers is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Dr. Flowers, 42, is the son of Dr. C. E. Flowers Sr. of Zebulon and the late Mrs. Carmen Poole Flowers. Gardner Temple In ROTC Summer Camp Cadet Walla . Gardner Temple, ! Jr., 20. whose parents live in Zeb ulon, is receiving six weeks of 1 training at the Army Reserve Of j Acer Training Corps (ROTC) sum j mer camp at Fort Benning, Ga. The training is scheduled to be concluded July 28. During this training Cadet ; Temple is receiving practical ex perience and instruction in tacti cal, technical and administrative subjects, with special emphasis 1 placed on the duties of a second lieutenant in an infantry unit. He is a 1958 graduate of Wake Ion High School and is a 1961 graduate of Gordon Military Col lege in Barnesville, Ga. Temple j is a student at East Tennessee ! College in Johnson City, Tenn.
