NEWS of WENDELL > MRS. BERTIE M. KNOTT , Funeral services for Mrs. Bertie Mattox Knott, 75, who died last Friday, were conducted Sunday at 8 p.m. in the Wendell Christian Church, of which she was a mem ber, by the Rev. John D. Whidden and the Rev. Preston D. Parsons of Cary. Pallbearers were nephews: Chas. Knott, A. B. Knott, A. R. Ledford, Mac Roberts, and Vernon Mattox, all of Wendell, and Irvin Lynch of Goldsboro. Surviving are three sons, Lon nie, Marsh, and Bruce of Wendell; one sister, Mrs. Martha Mattox Todd of Wendell; three brothers, i R. Lee Mattox of Wendell, Ben G. Mattox of Smithileld, Robert V. Mattox of Rocky Mount; and four grandchildren. • JESSE C. PARRISH Jes£e Clyde Parrish, 61, died Sunday at Wake Memorial Hos pital. Surviving are his wife, the former Ella Dunn; three sons, Ger old of Raleigh, Bobby and Donald of the home; one daughter, Rosa Lee Parrish of the home; one brother, J. C. Parrish of Zebulon; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Dessie Riley of Wendell, Mrs. Edward Medlin of Zebulon. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Corinth Bap tist Church by the Rev. C. W. Driver and the Rev. Paul Hardy. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lula Garner; seven daughters, Mrs. Ma ry Bunch, Mrs. Helen Davis, Mrs. Catherine Doan, and Mrs. Pansy Mitchell of Wendell, Mrs. Doris Lewis, Mrs. Laura Faye Wilder, and Mrs. Sue Strickland of Ral eigh; five sons, Willard, Ben, and Charles of Wendell, John of Knightdale, Joel of Poquoson, Va. Mr. Garner had been a member of Modern Woodmen of America Camp 13967 for 20 years. • MRS. SHIRLEY FLOWERS RICHARDSON Funeral services were held Wed nesday at 3 o’clock from Corinth Baptist Church near Wendell for Mrs. Shirley Flowers Richardson of Raleigh. She died Saturday. She was the wife of Rowland Richardson and is survived by one son, Calvin; three daughters, Di ane, Sarah, and Sandra; her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. V. F. Flowers of Wendell; two sisters, Mrs. Max Dennis of Raleigh and Betsy Flow ers of Wendell; two brothers, Ale James Flowers of the Air Force in Calif., and A3c Alvin Ray Flow ers who is stationed in Texas. The Revs. W. C. Barham and Davis conducted the service. Bur ial was in the church cemetery. • UNION WORSHIP SERVICE The 5th Sunday Evening Union Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on March 31 in the Wendell Bap tist Church. The preacher will be the Rev. John Whidden of the Wendell Christian Church. Special music will be rendered by the Baptist choir. Mrs. Rachel Johnson of Raleigh visited Mrs. Marvin Todd last Thursday. Robert Coley was admitted to Wake Memorial Hospital last Thursday after suffering a heart attack. Mrs. Carl Von Cannon and son, David of Wilson, spent Thursday night with her mother, Mrs. Rob ert Coley. Dee Anne Young returned Thursday from Rex Hospital af ter an attack of pneumonia. Mp. and Mrs. Luther Ledford and Keith, Miss Julia Stanaland and Joe Lynn Ledford spent Sun day in Wilmington with the Lu ther Ledfords, Jr. i Mr. and Mrs. Roy Coltrain spent Sunday with relatives in William ston. Mrs. Morris Todd and Mrs. Wil lis Strickland of Raleigh spent Sunday with Mrs. Joe Ferrell. Colon Doane is improving at Veteran’s Hospital in Durham. Mrs. Robert Outland of Rich Square spent Sunday night with her mother, Mrs. Oscar Griswold, who accompanied Mrs. Outland home for a visit. Dr. Outland re mains ill at his home. Mrs. W. A. Price is a surgical patient at Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brame of Ra leigh were guests last week of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Brame. Mrs. Russell Price of Wendell returned home Saturday from Wake Memorial Hospital after sur gery. Mr. and Mrs. Dwane Bruch re turned to their home Sunday in Arlington, Va. H. F. Tunnell remains in a seri ous condition at Wendell-Zebulon Hospital after suffering injuries in an auto wreck. Allen Knott, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Knott, was a diag nostic patient last week at Wen dell-Zebulon Hospital. Rev. James Pernell was trans ferred Thursday to Veteran’s Hos pital in Durham. He had suffered another heart attack. Mrs. Dewey Fields of Tabscott, Va., spent the weekend with her parents, Mrs. Robert Coley. Mrs. Tom Jones is a patient at Mary Elizabeth Hospital. Raymond Strickland is a patient at Rex Hospital for diagnostic treatment. I Wendell Minister, Wife Going to Japan The Rev. and Mrs. J. Doane Stott have been selected to go to Japan on an evangelism project sponsored by the United Church of Christ in Japan. The Rev. Mr. Stott, a Methodist minister, is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Stott of Wendell. The minister will work in a vil lage in Northern Japan for seven weeks this summer. He will be in charge of establishing a church in that area. After he has com pleted the project he will turn the church over to a student minister. After the conclusion of the seven Weeks there, the Rev. and Mrs. Stott will move to Kobe, Japan, where they will teach in the Pal more Institute, and English School. The cost of the project in North ern Japan will be approximately $4,100. The Rev. and Mrs. Stott have served as missionaries to Japan. They will retire this conference year. His wife is the former Flora Beel. They have two children, Mary Beel of Greensboro and Rus sell, a student at a Georgia col lege. The Rev. Mr. Stott received his bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from Duke University in 1926. They spent two years in Honolulu teaching in the public schools there. Resident's Mother's Funeral Saturday Funeral services for the mother of David Wilson of Zebulon were held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Church of God near Middlesex. Burial was in Samaria Church cemetery. Mrs. Neva Wilson, 83, died Thursday night in Howard’s Rest Home in Morrisville. She had been a patient at the home for more than a year and a half. Mrs. Wilson was the widow of H. W. Wilson. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Bernice Bind of Wilson, Mrs. Irvin Liles of Mid dlesex, Route 1, Mrs. Willard V. Winborn of Zebulon and Mrs. Bob Davis of Norfolk; four sons, Da vid of Zebulon, Clarence of Zebu lon, Route 3, Everette of Route 1, Zebulon, and the Rev. James Wil son of Durham; one sister, Mrs. Eva Pope of Wilson; 26 grandchil dren and 16 great grandchildren. The casket was covered with a pall of red carnations. Her grand sons acted as pallbearers. Navyman Serving Aboard Oiler Claude E. Holder, boatswain’s mate second class, USN, son of Mrs. Luther Holder of Route 1, Zebulon, is serving aboard the oil er USS Kaskaskia, currently oper ating with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean.
