Clark told the officer that on the way home his stomach got to hurting and he was left behind by the others. In front of Radio Station WETC the youth started across the highway and saw on coming traffic so he swerved back to his original traveling side of the highway. Todd told the officer he did not see the boy until he was right on him. No charges have been placed against Todd. Clark was taken to Wendell Zebulon Hospital for emergency treatment. Davis Sons Hopkins Chapel By Mary Virginia Averette Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fowler had a picnic dinner at their home on Sunday for her family who live at Magnolia, N. C. Hilda’s mother and father, sisters and brother and twelve nieces enjoyed the occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Fowler and boys went to Galax, Virginia for the weekend to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Davis. Mrs. Iris Temple and Rose have returned to their home after spending sometime with Mrs. Minda Finch in Zebulon. Mr. E. V. Rhodes, Sr. is still critically ill at Wake Memorial Hospital. All of his children came home during Easter. Mr. and Mrs. Julian Rhodes, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Rhodes, and Mrs. Jake Dennis came from Takoma Park, Maryland and Mr. and Mrs. Coye Lee Blinson came from Newport News, Virginia. Mr. Leonard Gay is improving but is still confined to his home. Mr. and Mrs. Julian Mitchell were dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Drexel Rhodes on Easter Sunday. Mrs. Esther Averette and her granddaughter, Esther Vee Fa thera, celebrated their birthdays on Sunday. Mrs. Averette was J2 years old and Esther Vee was 13. Raymond, Calvin, Helen, Ruby and their families enjoyed the barbe cue dinner and birthday cakes. Mrs. Claude Walker and Terry went to Shelby last Friday to visit her parents and Mr. Walker’s mother. Mrs. G. D. Goodwin of Cameron, N. C. is spending the week with her sister, Mrs. Ebbie Stallings. Rev. Claude Walker is preach ing in revival services this week at the Calvary Baptist Church in Virgilina. The Junior G. A.’s will meet with Mrs. Leona Pippin and the Intermediate G. A.’s will meet with Ruby Leigh Denton on Thursday night at 8:00 o’clock. Weekend visitors of Mr. and Burbon Richards were Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Earl Richards and children from Bunn, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Edwards from Kinston, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Turner and baby from Yanceyville, Mrs. Pearlie Phillips from Westhaven Rest Home in Raleigh, Miss Dupree Phillips from Chapel Hill, Mrs. Meta Monteleon and daughter from Raleigh and Mr. and Mrs. Don Boughton and children from Raleigh. Mrs. Thelma Strickland from Baltimore, Maryland visited her sister, Mrs. Iris Temple, last week. Mrs. Melba Baker went to Wake Memorial Hospital on Tuesday morning for surgery. Before painting newly plastered walls, a brush coat of 1 part vin egar to 4 parts of water will cut the drawing effect of new plaster and the paint will adhere better and last longer. COLORED NEWS By Lizzie B. Askew The Tenth Annual Easter Pro gram of the United Church Organ ization was held Easter Monday at Wakefield Baptist Church. The address was given by Dr. C. E. Askew. The response was made by Deacon Alvester Perry. Miss Barbara Jean High sang a solo. Theme of the meeting was “The Way of the Cross.” A history of the organization was given by Mrs. M. N. Perry of Riley Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Este Hodge sang a solo, and Mrs. Bessie Perry gave the president’s address. Speaking on the theme were the Revs. W. M. Morgan of Raleigh, John Mangum of Wendell, Charles Jeffreys of Rolesville, and C. E. Askew of Zebulon. After taking out expenses of the meeting, $78.00 was left with the church. The meeting was inspiring as well as profitable. Mrs. Odell Whitley wishes to remind you again that on the third Sunday night in April “The Path way to Glory” will be held at Mount Zion Holiness Church at 8:00 p.m. The public is cordially invited.
