Mr. Simpson was well known ami greatly beloved ] throughout this city, ami hundreds of 1 friends and admirers plan to attend j tbe funeral services. i The ordinance passed Thursday i night by the aldermen prohibits park- i ing on the north side of East Depot j Street between Union and Church i Streets. The ordinance was publish- 1 ed Friday, and with its publication \ became a law. There was some con fusion as to whether the law affected ' the north or south side of the street. ! Two negroes were the only persons j tried in recorder’s court Friday. One 1 | was charged with transporting liquor ] jj and the other with having liquor for i i sale. Both are liound over to court ' I and sent back to the county Jail. The ! negroes were arrested several days ( | ago and officers making the arrest | charge that a half a gallon of liquor was found in the car with them. i Some of the steel beams for the new High School building hnve lieen put | in place, and the structure is begin ning to take definite form. The i i beams to be used in the structure are | among the largest ever used in Con » cord and the steel and iron workers 1 *! have lieen. kept busy during the past week getting them in place. The clinic will liegin next i Tuesday and continue through the 1 19th, the examinations to lie made free of charge by Dr. Spruill, who has conducted two other successful clin ics in this county. Rat killing was a favorite sport with a number of persons here Friday. While cleaning off the debris that col j lected when the row of buildings was torn down on the new property of the Cabarrus Savings Bank, hundreds-of 'rats were found.
