Two new cases of measles and one of smallpox were reported yesterday to the office of the County Health Officer. The smallpox case was in No. (> township. The State Lecturer of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klau will deliver a public lecture at the Court House this evening at S o’clock. The public is invited to hear the address. There will be an ice cream supper and box supper at Shinn school house Satur day night, August lltli, beginning at 3 o'clock. The proceeds are to go to Mt. Mitchel Church. The public is invil* ed to attend. A game of baseball is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the Cabarrus park in Kannapolis, which will give baseball fans their last opportunity of seeing the fast team from Albemarle in action when it plays the Cabarrus Y. The game will begin at 3:30 o’clock. * Mr. Farrell White, who has been as sociated with the Yorke-WadswoHh Hardware Co., here for several months, has accepted a position with the Wis easscee* Manufacturing Co., of Albe marle. Mr. White left Concord several days ago for Albemarle and has already begun his new duties. This city was visited by a most re freshing rain Thursday night. Rain be gan falling about S o'clock and con tinued to fall in torrents for more than two hours. The temperature Thursday was not as humid and depressing as it had been jon the two previous day. ami rain made it even cooler. Mr. Shakespeare Harris is .confined to his home in No. 2 township with in juries received last Sunday when he was severely bruised and Shaken up when an auto in which he was riding crashed into a small ditch that could not be seen by the driver of the auto until too late to stop the car. Mr. Harris’ back was painfully hurt, and a trained nurse is with him now. Martha Washington Council, Daugh ters of Liberty, will l\ave a picnic at (’ox’s Mill tomorrow afternoon. The members are asked to meet at the hall at 2 :30, and not later than 3 o’clock where they will be conveyed to the picnic grounds in cars. The ladies are request ed to bring well-tilled baskets and the men watermelons for the dinner which will be spread on the grounds at six o’clock. Every member of this Council is asked to be present. The Widenhouse family reunion was held Thursday at the old home church near (leorgeville. A large crowd was present ami the day proved one of un usual interests for all. The sumptuous picnic dinner, served under the giant oaks in the yard, was one of the fea tures of the day. In the afternoon the chief event of the day, an address by Rev. L. I). Hay man, of Weldon, was enjoyed. Mr. Hayman is paster of the First Methodist Church of Weldon. All of the business houses of the city are closed this afternoon from 3 to 4 o’clock as a tribute of respect to Presi dent Harding. Several, of the cotton mills in this city and county otosed at noon and observed a half-holiday on this, the day the late President was buried in his home city of Marion. Memorial services are to be held in the courthouse here this afternoon from 3 to 4 o’clock, and hundreds of Concord and Cabarrus people are expected to attend. Definite plans have about been com pleted for the girls’ and boys’ camp to be held next week at the M. P. C. I. dormitories in Mt. Pleasant under the direction of Miss Cathleen Wilson, home demonstration ageht. and Mr. R. D. Goodman, farm agent. The camp will begin next Monday afternoon, and the program arranged for the event indi cates that the camp this year will be the most interesting ever held in this county.
