Fincher who 1 was injured Friday when struck by a ' truck, is reported today as practically 1 unchanged. The child was carried to the Concord Hospital immediately after } the accident and there is every indiea tion now that lie will recover. All of the six-months schools of the county except a few. opened for the 102324 term this morning- A number of tin? schools had already opened and a few postponed the opening fintil next Monday on account of local conditions. A number of school houses in the county have been greatly improved, and school officials are expecting a very successful year. Nineteen cases were on docket for trial in recorder's court this morning. Eight of the defendants were charged with intoxication: three others were charged with having liquor: five were charged with violations of the traffic laws; two were charged with gambling and another with assault with a dead * ly weapon- Several of the cases were hard fought and court was in session for several hours. Practically every teacher in the coun ty was present Saturday for the first meeting of the white school teachers. The meeting was devoted .strictly to a discussion of business, plans and poli cies to be followed during the year being mapped out. The teachers went on record as favoring the project for school, improvements in the county * ami en dorsed the action of the school board in calling the special election of Novem ber 20th. The big get-together meeting of mem bers of the \. M. (’. A- will he held at the Y on Thursday night of this week, and officers of the association are mak ing plans now to make the event one of the biggest in the history of the local association. Dr. Howard Rond tliaVr, President of Sfcjem College, will ' be the speaker and members of the Salem Alumnae Association will serve supper to those present. The full program for the meeting will be announced later. Carolina, State. Trinity and Wake Forest all were defeated Saturday in their football games. Carolina lost to Maryland 14 tq 0; State was defeated by y. M. 1., 22 to 7; Virginia defeated Trinity 33 to 0 and Florida defeated Wake Forest. The Wake Forest team showed the best f</rm. bolding the strong Floriaa team to a close score.
