Here is something that just fills the order. It Is of blue georgette crepe with just a suggestion of trimming in the way of white porcelain beads. The pleated apron adds to the tailored effect and gives a certain weight to the sheer mate rial. The easy neckline and short 1 sleeves insure. absolute freedom and comfort. THE CONCORD DAILY TRIBUNE ■ ■ - "" OPPOSE PRESENT FLAN TO UNITE THE METHODISTS Five Bishops D«ebw7~lt Would Favor Northern Church—lssue Joint State meat. Atlanta, Ga., June 21.—Declaring that “the matter before the church ie not unification in general but a particu lar plan which should not be considered; upon a mere impulse of sentiment,” a ! joint statement issued here by Bishops ■ Warren A'. Candler, Collins Denny and ■ IT. V. W. Darlington, W. N. Ainsworth and James F: "Dickey, of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, asserted that “however attractive may be some pos-' 1 sible conception of the unification with the northern branch, it does not follow ( tliat the pending plan would fulfill the ! phrpose.’ ’ “It has been constantly declared,” the statement said, “that the chief ends of . unification are to remove ‘irritating . competition,” prevent overlapping nnd . duplication of work by the two churches, save'' the needless expenditure of men nnd means and eliminate unseemly fric ‘ ticn and arrest the erection .of ‘altar < against altar.’ “But none of these desirable objects does this plan propose to accomplish; on the contrary, these objectionable con ditions are expressly continued by it. “If must, be borne in mind that the 1 northern jurisdiction will be eo-extensive with fiie .United States, while the south ern jurisdiction will be restricted to the -south and west where the Methodist’ Episcopal Church, South, now is umlCr the plan. The northern jurisdiction Will -bp unlimited and cover the south ern jurisdiction like a blanket. “It‘ is claimed by advocafes of the jdan that under it there will be a. volun tary merger of competing churches and conferences after the two churches nre united under ope name. What in spired the orlgirial organization of north ern churches in Dallas. Houston. Xew Orleans, Louisville, Nashville, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Miami and Tampa? It was the desire for northern fellowship, northern views and northern meney torpid their enterprises, and the same things that controlled the, original organizations will induce these established - congrega tions, to maintain the shine relation in the new church. Similar reasons will control many southern Methodists in border territory, and where outside pres sure becomes insistent, many Methodists will quietly withdraw, nnd unite with other churches. “It must be noted that that plan ef fects the repeal of the “plan of separa tion,’ adopted in 1844 when by an over whelming majority and pronounced valid and binding with the United States Su- 1 preme Court. Our northern brethren undertake to justify their unerasing in fraction of this plan by stating that conditions have altered since its adop tion. To this it is sufficient to reply that no change of situation can nullify a contract once rightly made. Don’t Want Negro Bishops. “If the plan of ‘separation,’ by which we hold all the property of the church south obtained prior to 1844 be re pealed, to what substitute for it env we look, and upon what can we depend? “Moreover, the plan proposes a rela tion to the negro not best for him and not possible for us, . . .It calls-for ‘ the acceptance by our people of two ne gro bishops. . . “IVe object to Ibis plan because of j their powers. . . . Our brethreii have never been willing and they ought never to be willing to turn their rights and du ties to the general conference.
