I met you in a, garden in an old Ken tucky town, The sun was shilling down, you wore a gingham gown, I kissed you as I placed a yellow tulip in your hair; I pou my coat pinned a rose so rare. .Time has not changed ycur loveliness, you're just the same to me, I love you yet, I can't forget, the days that used jo be. Chorus: When you Wore a fulipy a big yellow tulip, And I wore a big red rose. When you caressed me. ’twas then heaven blessed me, . A\ hat a blessing no one knows. *’ You made l ie cheery, when you called me dearie. 'Twas down where the * blue grass grows; Ycur lips were sweeter thnn julip, i When you wore a tulip, j And I wore a big red rose. The love you vowed to cherish has not altered with the years; You banish all my fears, your voice like music cheers; You’re the same sweet girl I knew in happy days of old. Your hair is'silver, but your heart is I gold, Red roses blush no longer in your cheeks so sweet and fair, It seems to me, dear, I can see white I roses blooming there. Mammoth Heating Plant For Univer sity. I •Durham. March 27.—Bids for a heating plant for Duke - University, to erst between $400,000 and $500,- 000. said to be the largest in the state and one of the largest in foe South, will be o)>ened nt noon on April Ist', it was learned today. The plant will be located across the railroad from the South of the present university, serving it through 1)00 feet of con crete tunnel and will also serve -the main university plant to be built about a mile away. Six months will be required to complete the system, the plant containing three boilers, be ing one story, or about 40 feet and about 100 feet square, built of brick and concrete. The mooii is the sluggard of the solar system, its 2.273 miles an hour in its journeying nrpund the earth comparing badly with the earth's 00,571) miles an hour around the sun. TiyTTEPft JuTarv Washington, March 20.—Some con gressmen were born to be congress men. All congressmen start out as something else, generally as lawyers, but these natural born ones have the congressional virus in their blood from earliest infancy, and as soon as they're elected it breaks,.out all over them. Thenceforward they’re primarily congressmen and doctors, lawyers or merchants and so forth suly inciden tally. Others, before tweaking into i>olitics, become too thoroughly saturated with their various original callings ever to get them out of their systems. These ■email) essentially, dactors. lawyers and merchants, and are cofigreseifteD oiitjr secondarily. a » . ' 5N* Congressman Blanton of Texas, for •nstance, is almost exclusively a con gressman. He was a lawyer, to begin with, but as a oongreasman; he swal lowed himself up as a lawyer, of New York, on the other hand, is a striking specimen of a doctor who happened to be elect ed to the Senate. He seldom has any thing to say about legislation except as it relates to questions of health, sanitation or the practice of medicine. Otherwise he's indlfferetrt. For exam ple, the coal strike iatenested him im mensely—because it was giving his constituents pneumonia. If Blanton lost his congressional job he’d <lry up. apd blow away, or at tjny rate hibernate until he got it back again. If l)rl Copeland were retired he’d go back, with a light heart, to writing medical articles. Shed No Teairs Wien Cyclone Mack t Left. Monrre Enquirer. Cyclone Mack, who has been ill from a nervous breakdown, has re turned to his home at Benpettsville, 15 C., after several weeks’ stay in a Spartanburg hospital. The noted evangelist attributes his, nervous col lapse to "the general attitude of the ministry” and “of the clergy that pur sued and persecuted me.” That statement coming from Rev. Mr. McLendon is sift-prising, ns riinfiy of us had been of the opinion that Mack bad caused nervous prostra tion among the ministry. Aat least, while in Mon roe, one preacher sited no tears when the renowned South Carolina evangelist “departed these Coasts.” "Repeat the words the defendant used,” said counsel for the plaintiff in a case of «innder. “I’d rather not," said the witness timidly.; “they were hardly words to tell to a gentleman.” "I see," said counsel; “then whis per to the judge." Woman’s Unkindness to Woman. After the way some women treat a shop-girl, the manners of a five-foil truck don’t seem so bad. For each man and woman, friend and neighbor I’m A. Live Wire, the labor ' saver. ’lm the snappy, full oi pep chap who lifts the gloom from homes that needed to get acquainted with the wonderful blessing known as electric ity.
