Albemarle, April 1. —The North State land and Development Com pany is to be a new enterprise for Albemarle, according to a letter writ ten to an Albemarle friend by former | State Senator J. M. Boyette. The new company la composed of capital ists from New York and Philadelphia and the capital stock is $1,000,000. according to Senator Boyette's letter which was written from Washington yesterday and received here today. The home office in this state will be at Albemarle, Mr. Boyette writes and the company is organized for the "purpose of development of land, the development and promotion of indus tries. manufacturing concerns, etc., by assisting them in a financial way to organize and promote industries and resorts for North Carolina.” Mr. Boyette writes that he finally suc ceeded in ‘‘selling North Carolina, and especially Stanly county to these peo ple. He has been in New York for the past several weeks working on the proposition. \The new concern will open offices in'"Albemarle within the next few weeks, but just what the first move will be is not known. Charlotte, April I.—Poisoned candy given as an “April fool” joke almost proved fatal * today for Miss Eva Jenkins, of North Carolina, a clerk at a local five and ten cent store. Miss Nell Stegall, a clerk in the same store was very ill as a result of eat ing some of the candy while a number of other clerks experienced illness of varying degrees aB a result of eating the candy, which, it was reported, j was handed out by three or four other clerks in the store.
