Business with local police officers has been quiet dur ing the week. Reports reaching Concord this morn ing are to the effect that the rain of Thursday was general throughout the county and in adjoining counties. The rain here began falling in the after noon and during the night continued for several flours. The free movie program will be given as usual at the Y. M. C. A. to night at 7:30. If weather conditions are favorable the pictures will be shown on the lawn. It is probable that the program tonight will be the last of the year at the Y. The special edition of The Daily Tribune, which contained facts about the local Y. M. C. A., has been sent to all parts of the country. Copies of the paper have been addressed to all of the Y. M. C. The lower temperatures rode in on the crest of a wet wind which brought heavy rains Thursday night following light showers in the afternoon. The rain was general in this part of the state, it is said. Prof, and Mrs. Price Doyle left this morning for their home in Missouri. They are making tile trip in their automobile. Prof. Doyle will teach in a summer school during the next three months and will enter Columbia University in the fall to secure his master's degree. Moving pictures taken here on the day of the Y circus was staged \v : l! be shown at the tomorrow night at 7 :30. Swimming lessons will be started at the Y pool as soon as the instruct ors return from the "gang" camp the latter part of June. J. W. Denny, physical director of the Y, has been very successful in teaching persosns to swim and he expects to have a large class of beginners during the summer months. Junior girls who went to the Y on Thursday afternoon for a swim were disappointed when they found mil lions of flying ants covering the sur face of the pool. The ants appeared just after the noon hour and were In such great numbers that the pool had to be emptied and washed. The regular program was resumed today, the pool having filled during the night. Poppies—Symbols of Humanity. Heroes dead—heroes living, we honor them when we buy a poppy. From coast to coast, these glowing red flowers will be offered to you and it is a Privilege to purchase them, to wear them as an outward badge of the great esteem in which you hold the men who trod War’s thundering path so few years ago. It is such a little thing to do in such a Great cause. Remember this—these poppies hon or. as well the War Mothers, who, through their tears, sent their hoys •Into cataclysms of peril, that Pence might eventually come to many trou bled lands and peoples. The silent thanks—and prayers— of these Mothers, will unite with the murmured gratitude of those who fought and lived and those who fought —and died. The poppy is abloom in the fields o’ France: they show their red faces within call of the white crosses and the sunlit graves of Americana wno “went over”—never to return. Buy a poppy! And winged blessings will sound in your heart, from the Iwing and the dead, mingled with a prayer which is the mighty, mingled with a prayer the mighty, aggregate prayer of Motbv erhood.
