Ballinger was formerly Miss Elnora Shelton, of this city. The Charlotte Hornets are at home all week, playing Columbia the first three days and Spartanburg tbe last three days. Several new players have been secured by Charlotte during the past week, and will be seen in action against Columbia and Spartanburg. The orthopaedic clinic, held Satur day at the Cabarrus County Health Department under the supervision of Dr. Myers, of Charlotte. He furnish ed casts for four children's feet, treated 23, and measured three for braces. The singing class from the Oxford Orphanage will give a concert in Con cord tomorrow night, June 22nd. The class always attracts a large audience and the number of tickets already sold indicates that the attendance again this year will be large. The “Sunday Gang,” with 60 members present, met yesterday at the Y. M. C. A. Next fall the mem bership in the organization is to be limited—only the “key” boys are to be picked. Many fine things have been arranged on the program for next fall and winter. Cabarrus county was soaked over the week-end by the finest rain in re cent weeks. Reports reaching Con cord indicate that the rain was gen eral throughout the State and in i parts of South Caroline, and crops are believed to have been greatly benefit- I ted. i Seven defendants are to be tried in recorder's court this afternoon. Albemarle, June 20.—The condition of Hobart Morton, young Albemarle attorney, who was run down by an automobile on West Main street about S o'clock last night, is still regarded as exceedingly grave, and possitrtii ties of his recovery are believed to be very uncertain. He is at a local hospital where he was rushed imme diately following the accident. Mr. Morton suffered a fractured skull and was rendered unconscious, in which condition he has remained ever since, save for very short in tervals during the day. The car which struck the young attorney was driven by “Red” Smart. The acci dent happened just in front of the general store of (J. (\ Morton, a ! brother of the injured man. j Those who saw the accident seem to think that it was unavoidable. Mr. ! Morton walked out from the store j and started rapidly across the street.
