Auxiliary Speaker
The American Legion Auxiliary
held its regular monthly meeting
at the community building Sat
urday night with an unusually
good attendance including several
guests.
After the business meeting was
finished, Mrs. P. G. Wright in
troduced Miss Franees Tucker,
head of the Ashe County welfare
department, who gave a most in
teresting talk on child welfare
which is the auxiliary program
for the month of April.
Miss Tucker stated the talk
with conditions that existed many
years ago before any child wel
fare program had been develop
ed. She outlined the progress of
that particular phase of our
civilization through the year of
the last half century, and finish

Held Meeting
The Presbyterian women of
the church met at the home of
Mrs. James McLaurin with Miss
Happy Robinson as joint hostess,
Wednesday evening, with 11
members and 3 visitors present.
The meeting was presided ov
er by Mrs. Ivan Miller, who
opened it with a prayer.
Mrs. W. P. Boyle gave the de
votional.
The group was divided into
two circles which meet once a
ed her talk by giving us a very
comprehensive view of what is
being done along this line in our
own state and county today. At
the end of the meeting a joint
social hour was held with the
Legion. Refreshments were serv
ed.

Jefferson Methodist church met

were fifteen members and one
visitor, Miss Evelyn Acheson,
