Business Census Is To Be Taken In This County! _ General Census Will Be Tak en Later, Officials j Announced Statesville — (Special) Pre- j liminary arrangements for launching the nation-wide Cen sus of Business in this District, which includes Ashe county and 11 other counties in this area, are underway this week, accord ing to Harry B. Moore. District Supervisor of the Bureau of the Census which is located in the City Ilall. Statesville. The Business Census, not to be confustd with the general popu lation census to be taken later, is scheduled to begin early in April, according to the latest word from Washington, Mr. Moore stated. Approximated 4, aOO census takers in 1100 district offices throughout the United states will report on the 19411 business operations of an esti mated .'1,000,000 retail, wholesale and service trade establishments in the country. Information on sales volumes, payrolls, principal merchandise 'ines and other basic items about the country's distributive sys tem will be collected for the first time in nearly a decade. The most recent business census was conducted in 1940. covering activities in 1939. Produc ed At Roaring Gap Roland Koontz, Ashe Fish and Game Protector, announced this week that 2700 trout, averaging from seven to eleven inches in length, have been released in seven Ashe county creeks and the New River. These fish were produced at the State Fish Hatchery at Roar ing Gap. The fish were released through the cooperation of the members of the Ashe Fish and Game Club and interested fisher men in the county. The following creeks were ; stocked with the trout in this i program: Piney Branch, Cran I berry, Helton, Obids, Big Laurel, ; Three Top and Big Horse and ! the North Fork New River.
