Mrs. Brown Entertained At Parties Here Last Week Miss Myrtle Dean Graybeal, whose marriage to Herrick Broughton Brown took p ace on Sa:u:day afternoon at the West Jefferson Methodist church was entertained at a number of so cial affairs during the past w;ek. Mrs. Samuel P. Wilson of Cas cade, Va., and her mother, Mrs. B. E. Reeves, entertained the wed/dinig party and other special guest i at the cake cutting on Friday evening following the re hersal. The Reeves home was decorat ed in summer flowers carrying out the bridal motif of green and white. In the dining room the table was covered with an imported lace cloth and was centered with a five tiered wed ding cake decorated with cala lillies. An unusual arrangement ,;f white and green interspersed with tall white tapers and a miniature bride and g: oom form ed a background for the cake. i A- ustirg in the dining room were Mns. John Rfceves, Mrs. Ed M. Anderson,. Mrs. Glenn B. Gray.heal, Mrs. Carl Graybeal and Mrs. Luther Kiser. Misses Roberta Austin and June Osborne entertained mem bers of the wedding party, and a few special friends at a lunch eon at the Austin home in Jef ferson on Fiiday. j Summer flowers were used throughout the house and a color scheme of pink and white was carried out. The honoree was presented a corsage. The lunch eon was served at two tables to fount.en guests. On Satuiday afternoon, June 24, Misses Daphne Eller and Marilyn Welch entertained at a I rook party for twelve at the [ home of Miss Eller in Lansing. I Miss Graybeal w'as presented a plate and sherbet in her crystal pattesn. I On Saturday morning, prior to the wedding, Mrs. Glenn B. Gravibeal .aunt of the bride, en tertained the mLmfbers of the wedding party, members of the groom’s family and memfoe:s of the bride’s family at a wedding breaktast at her home. Tables were set for twenty four with one large table and four small ones being arranged in the dining and living room The centerpiece was an attrac tive arrangement of-white flowers with “July 1950” interspersed witn the flowers. A green anc white color scheme was used throughout the house. iVL..-i Grayibeal was presented a corsage by the hostess. Miss Laura Lemly Buried On Tues. The funeral service for Miss Laura Emma Lemly, 51, Todd, was held Tuesday morning at the Blackburn’s Chapel, Todd with Rev. Ernest Stephens conduct ing the service. Interment for Miss Lemly. who die* early Sunday morning, was held at the Todd cemetery. She is survived by the follow ing brothers and one sister: H. H. Lemly, FI: etwood; C. W. Lem ly, Kingsport, Tenn.; R. V. Lem ly, Fleetwood; A. G. Lemly, West ji-iitrson and Mrs, Ola Luthfl^ Todd. GIFT PARCEL SUBSIDIES TO EUROPE ARE ENDED Washington — Special sub sidies on U. S. gift parcels to a lange pant of Europe expired this week and the bargain rate of six cents per pound was replaced with the regular rate of 14 cents. The difference had bee* paid to the Post Office Department by the Economic Co-operation Administration. Because of eco nomic improvement, the subsidy is being discontinued to Britain, Northern Ireland; the Nether lands Corsica, France and the Western zones of Germany and Berlin. It continues to Italy, Austria. Bids shall be accompanied by a bid guarantee of not less than five per cent (5 per cent) of the amount of the bid, same to be in the form of a certified check or cashier’s check in the sum of two per cent (2 per cent) of the amount of bid PLUS a bid bond in the sum of three per cent (3 per cent of the amount of bid, or certified check in the sum of five per cent (5 per cent) of the amount of the bid, made pay able to the Owner. Checks as herein called for shall be drawn on a bantk which is insured by the Federal Deposit Ihsurance Corporation, and the certifica tion shall be by the bank on which the check is drawn. Such bid bond and check, or check, shall be submitted with the un derstanding that it shall guar antee that the bidder will not withdraw his bid for a period of thirty days after the schedul ed closing time for the receipt of bids; that if his bid is accept ed, he will enter into a formal contract with the Owner in ac cordance with the Form of Agreement included as a part of the Contract Documents, and that the required performance and payment bonds will be giv en; and that in the event of the withdrawal of said bids within said period, or the failure .to en ter into said contract and give said bonds within ten (10) days aiflter he has received notice of the acceptance of his bid, the bidder shall be liable to the Owner for the full amount of the bid guarantee as represent ing the damage to the Owner on account of the default of the bidder in any particular hereof. The bid bonds and checks shall be returned to all except the thrte lowest bidders within three (3) days after the formal opening of bids. The remaining bad bonds and checks will be re turned to the three fowe6t bid ders wiThin 48 hours after the Owner and the accepted bidder have executed the contract and' the executed Performance and Payment bonds have been ap proved by the Owner, and the required proof of carriage of the insurance necessary.
