4 1 .; Colored Moonlight School. , A colored Mdonlight School was organized ' Bushy Fork township, district school number one, oa January 5, 1916, and it has been a great success, having 24 scholars enrol eid. Some of the scholars could not' make a letter when they began, ! now they can make all of them and read. The time expired on'Feb. 9th, being a decided success from the begin ning. ,1 Bennie Gates was teacher, with John L. Torian as assistant. ! DR. MCNARY ADDRESSES THE TEACHERS On last Saturday the County Teachers Association met in the Auditorium with !a : large atten dance. Aside from the usual course of the meeting the teach ers enjoyed the pleasure of an ad dress by Dr. Banks McNary, sup erintendent of the Caswell Train ing School at Kinston. This ad dress yas highly entertaining and instructive and was heard with pleasure by not only the teachers but many of the citizens of the town. The insurance department of North Carolina has iust com pleted a verification of the statement of the Jefferson Stan dard Life, Greensboro, N.' C, showing the condition of that flourishing Company as of De cember 31, 1915. Last year, the company; in- creaseu lis insurance m torce to $45,320,870, and admitted assets to $6,334,913. The firross sur plus to policyholders, including capital, totals $1,074,071. Of this surplus, $401,342 is annof tioned to deferred dividend poli- cyholders and $47,728 has ,been apportioned for the navment dividends to annual .dividend policyholders. The position of this snlendiS company m its home state is evi denced by the fact that wjiii py er fifty companies doing business m the Old North State, the Jef ferson Standard carries more than one-eighth of all the life insurance carried on the lives of North Carolinians. During 1915, the Jefferson Standard paid for over $4,000, 000 North Carolina. The company makes a specialty of first mortgages on real estate, preferring those of smaller amounts; The net interest rate' of the company for 1915 was 6 percent.
