"V SOCIETY NEWS. Itra. I. O. Wilkcrson deliyhlfully entertained Saturday afternoon honor of the teachers. A pretty arrangement of choice flowers added to fhe attractiveness of the home. Progressive rook was the game which was enjoyed, at close cf the game deligbtful, block ice cream and enke were served by Misses flatherine Hatchett, Vertie Moore and Berth(a Payior. Those enjoying Mrs. Wilkerson's party were the following: Mesdames W. . Cd Bullock, M. A. Stewart; Boatwright, Joe blanks, J. D, \,K. Bichmond, P. . O. Carver, B. O. Clayton, E. E. Thomas, T. B. Woody, H. W. Newell, Bruce Newell, Bryant Barnett, J.' J. Win? stead and Misses Kate Newton, Edna Bradsher, Elisabeth Noell, Ethel Newton, Sykea, Allen, Bert Ha Clayton, f Clara Edwards, Katie Lee Mathews, Delia Bryant and Maie Hardy. . The Research Club held its first meeting of the vear on Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. 9- G. Winstead. The club will study this year "Wonder sppts of the Americas". The les^ son hour was in charge of Mrs. L. M. Carlton, tHi subject being "Natural wonders of America". Mrs. A. M. Burnt read very interestihgly. "Facts about North Carolina". In conclusion the hostess served ice cream and cake to the following: Mesdames B. G. Clayton, H. S. Morton, W. C. Bullock, W O. Sample, J. B Hurley,.L. M. Carlton, A. M. Burns, R. L. Wilburn, A. S. deVlaming, W. T. Pass and J. J. Winstead. Mrs. M. R. Long delightfully entertained the Btidge Club Thursday afternoon at her attractive home on Lamar Street. Autumn flowers were used which lent an attractive glow to the rooms. After playing bridge a business meeting was held and at the conclusion Mrs. Long served a salad course with iced tea. Those present were Mesdames E. V. Boatwright, H. S. Morton, L..M. Carlton, P. B. Henley, R. M. Stephens, J. W. Noell and Miss Elizabeth Noell. The Woman's Club has opened itsyear with a vim. The first meeting after an adjournment last June took place FrMay eve nine: _in the Club rooms in the Kaplon building. A reception was given to the teachers of the' town. Elizabeth -Noell, Annie Laurie Barn?tt and Mrs. G. W. Thomas. In conjunction with the Woman's Glob Mrs. Ida Kaplon had her initial opening of The Quality Shop. This i' I l new enterprise for Roxboro and | with the large and varied assortment ( of'ready" to wear for la-iics and children will evidently make a Kt. She has displayed a most beautiful line and with the a tractive and spacious i store rooms in the new Kaplon building the ladies will find here a placewhere they can spend their money to advantage. On the night of the opening it wouhi be Hard to describe the beauty of the store, it was brilliantly lighted, which, with the artistic blending of potted Dlants and the display of merchandise no more handsome showing has been made Hare. The opening was a decided success and Mrs. Kaplon was more than pleased with the interest shown by the ladles of the town and country. On Friday "afternoon Mrs. B. E. Love was hostess to the first meeting of the season for tlfc pleasure club. As the guests arrived they were greeted by Mrs. Love and directed"to the punch bowl where Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Merritt served delightful punch. Six tables were placed for game of rook and after placing for a while the cards were put away and the hostess assisted by Mrs. Merritt and Mrs. Austin "served block cream cake and salted nuts to-tHs following ladies: Mesdames W.
