pippiplilll ' THE OPENING OF THE OUVE HILL HIGH SCHOOL. The opening exercises of the Olive Hill High School occurred on Monday of last week. On Friday before the patrons, teachers and friends of the school pnt the building and grounds in order so that the machinery for'the year might be put in motion without delay. At the ringing of the bell on Monday, a happy group of children, patrons, teachers and friends of the school gathered in the high school uditorium. The devotional exercises were conducted by Miss Helen W. Graves, principal of the school. Miss Gtsvcs then made a little introductory address in a very happy vein setting forth the educational policy of the school for the coming s.esaion after which she presented the new members of the faculty to the audie/tce. The main address of the morning was made by Mr. J. A. Beam, a devoted friend of the Person County schools. Olive Hill township is alive to the fact that children are the nation's greatest asset. Therefore an equal opportunity is promised for kll. Three . large trucks are provided to bring the children from the various points in the township. Already one hundred eighty .five pupils .have been enrolled with nrosnects foe manv more in the rear future.?XX. -o CARD OF-THANKS. Pulliam, giving him a birthday . surprise Mr. Pulliam being sixty nine years of age. Friends and relatives from both North Carolina and Virginia were heartily welcomed by he and his wife. The supper which was brought by different members of the family was served from a long table in the yard. After sapper the part; returned to the house where Mr. Pul liam was presented with many gifts. His children present were Mess. J. E. and W. C. Pulliam; Mesdames J. K.
