Its New Home For Its Own Use Atlantic Bank to Occupy First Floor. (Grctusboro News, May 17th.) The rontract' for the construction ft' the 17-story Jefferson Standard Life In surance Co. Fuller Construction company, of Washington, for the sum of approximately 2,(KH),UIMJ, tliij sum including heating, lighting and plumbing. . The building will be of steel and reinforced concerete. Walter G. Distler, vice-president of the company to whom the bid whs award ed, stated last night that work will tie gin in tearing down the old courthouse either tomorrow or Friday. He believes he will have the building ready for occu pancy in about 12 months. To Rush Construction. In addition to convincing the building committee of the insurance company that with all the resources at their com mand they can speed up the work of the building, the Fuller company sub mitted the lowest 'bid. This construc tion company is one of the largest in the I'nited States and engiuecrs'with tin, company have hud much experience in i-on.ttxui ting large buildings. Grciicsboro citizens and people of the entire state, as well, are very much in terested in the construction of this iiuililing. To House Atlantic Bank. The building, designul by Charles '. llartmann, architect, of Greensboro, will house the Jefferson standard Life Insurance company, the largest insur ance company of its its kind in the south, will be the new home of the Atlantic Hank and Trust company, one of tin largest banking institutions in the state, If All Phone and will ulsi provide storerooms and more than ,'JUO oflices, of which Greens boro is in xore nee;!. fi... new structure will hasten the de velopment of the business district of Greensboro and will give to the city a metropolitan air. The ground floor will cover approximately 113 feet on West Market street and 1 S7 next to the Ban ner building so that the service. Arrange ment will allow access and egress to West Gaston as well as to North Kim street. Two public entrances will be arrang ed to the building. The main entrance will face on Kim street in almost the exact center of the building. The other will be on Market street. Both will open on a spacious arcade leading to a group of five elevators located at the rear. The arcade will Ie 15 feet wi le with a simple but dignified treatment of imported marble. Over the five elevator doors will be designed mosaic tile pane's in which will be incorporated the fit ami stiite seals. Surrounded by the state flower ill be historical views of Kim street and the well known historical portiait of Thomas Jefferson signing the declaration of independence, the company being named for this distin guished statesman. Heat for the entire building will be provided by an automatic system. Company Reserves Seven Floors. The fivo top floors will be occupied by the Jefferson Standard Life lusur ance company. In addition two other floors will be arranged to be used by the company in future years, allowance being made for expansion. Each of these floors will be especially arranged for the use of the company, the roonia fittings being especially suitable handling the mass of business each handled by the company. The trust department of the Atlantic Bank and Trust company and the vault will le in the basement of the structure. In the basement as well will lie one "f the finest barber shops in the south. The heating and ventilating systems will also be installed in the basement. Officers of the insurance company are at present planning to employ a build ing suneriiitendent at once to be here while the building is under construction so that he may be familiar with it.
