Banquet Thursday night of commence
ment. The game at Raleigh last Fri
day, was undoubtedly the poorest
game the University has played.
Wake Forest ought to have been
shut out, and if it had not been i
for the jewel of an umpire it is
probable that they would. The
gentleman who umpired, while
not showing any partiality to
either team, certainly did ex
hibit a remarkable want of know
ledge on matters that pretain to
Base Ball. The University has
made a good record, and there is
no doubt but that it will be kept
up. The team leaves this morn
ing for Lynchburg, to play the
University of Virginia.
The Seniors will compete on
the first of May for the honor of
i
speaking at Commencement. On
ly those who have the highest
standing in essays and orations
and an average scholarship of 85
per cent, or over will be allowed
to compete. This will . do away
with the long speeches at Com
mencement as only six Seniors
can compete. , The contest will
not be public as before" announc
ed. ' .V-. ' .
The U. of Pa., Glee Club, will
visit this state soon, giving per
formances in Raleigh, and prob
ably Durham. They have very
hurriedly sent .our Glee Club a
complimentary ticket, w h i c h
courtesy is highly appreciated.
The U. of Pa. Club is generally
one of the best in the college
world. And the people should
go and hear them, if they wish
to hear something nice. We
hope their trip south will be
more than profitable.
