Oldham attempts to steal second, is caught between bases and is kept dodging for some time ; while this is going on Kenan attempts to steal third and is thrown out. Oldham gets back to first. Oldham steals second, and goes to third on a passed ball. Stanley strikes out. Vermont comes to bat but fails to get a man on first. Pond leads off with a grounder to Stephens and is thrown out at first. Bal com grounder to Gregory and is thrown out at first. Woodward pops up a fly to Lanier, Lanier muffs the fly but gets ball to first before Woodward reaches it. End of third inning. Score: Vermont, 2; North Carolina, 4. Fourth Inning. Stephens' fly is caught by Daggett. Robert son, W., pops up a fly to Wood ward and goes out. Gregory flys to Pond and retires the side. Corley seizes the bat for Vermont and fans out. Cooke's fly to cen ter falls in Bobby's hands and he is out. Hewes is hit by pitcher and gets his base. Daggett grounder to first and out.. End of fourth inning. Kenan gets his base on balls. Oldham's weak ground er is picked up by pitch and Old ham is out at first Stephens comes to the bat for Vermont and is given his base on balls. Allen's grounder is picked up by Gregory and thrown to Stanley who puts Stephens out on second. Allen reaches first. Pond gets to first on a scratch and Allen goes to second. Balcom makes a two base hit to right and Allen scores. Woodward flys to Oldham and is out. Corley's fly to deep right is taken in by Kenan, the star play of the evening. End of the fifth inning. Seventh Inning. Lanier leads off with a good grounder to Corley, who fails to get the ball to first in time to put him out. Honeycutt's base hit to center advances Lanier to second; Kenan makes a base hit; Robertson, R., scratch hit, reaches first; Oldham flies to Pond and is out; Stanley hits Cooke for a single to center; Lanier and Kenan both cross the plate; Robertson, R., steals third. Stephens, the youth of the flowing mane, seizes the stick and drives the ball to the center for a three bagger, bringing home both Rob ertson, R., and Stanley. Robert son, W. , reaches first on a scratch ; attempts to steal second and is thrown out by Balcom.
