We copy the following- from our erood friend, the Charlotte Obser ver: V " " J The Observer has before it the announcement of two books now in preparation by Mr Stephen B. 'Weeks Ph. D. One is of " The Life of Senator W. P. Mangum, of North Carolina," and .the other of "The Quakers in Virginia, the Car olinas and Georgia, and their set tlement of the middle West. " LIFE OE WILLIE P. MANGUM. Prof . Stephen B. Weeks, Ph. D., sometime Fellow by Courtesy, in the Johns Hopkins University and now connected with the Bureau of Education, has in course of prepara tion a volume on the Life and Times of Senator Willie P. Mangum, of North Carolina. It will deal very fully with political events in North Carolina during the 35 years he was in public life, 1818-1853. Dr. Weeks will also enter with some detail into the social life of the state during the earlier part of this period, and will discuss some of its phases that now no longer exist. ; The volume will contain a portrait of Judge Mangum and views of his home. Any person who has letters written by him or other material re lating to his career, or was person ally acquainted with him, or knows of his fame as an orator, is requested to correspond with Dr. Weeks. He may be addressed in care of the Bu reau of Education, Washington, D. C. ' THE QUAKERS IN VIRGINIA, ETC. " The Quakers in Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia, and Their Settlement in the Middle West, " is well advanced for publication. It will appear as an " Extra Volume " in the Johns Hopkins University Se ries of Studies in Historical and Po litical Science. It will be bound in cloth, will contain about 250 octavo pages 'with an index, and will be sold for $1.50 per copy. A map in dicating in colors all sections of those states where there now are or have been settlements of Friends at any time in the past, and marking the lo cation of every meeting-house, will be added. Subscriptions mav now be sent to The Johns Hopkins Press, Balti more, and notice will be sent when the work is ready and remittances are called tor. Begin your subscription now, and your file will be complete. A Wonderful Invention. Zooloery teaches us that the hairs of the head are hollow, and contain an oil that gives them life. In clipping the hair with scissors, this hollow is left open, and the hair loses its life-giving properties. I hove a Machine named the Singeing Machine, which removes the hair and at the same time closes up the hollow causing the hair to retain its life-giving properties, and therefore stopping the hair from falling out or dying and giving it a soft life growth. Call and examine this machine and have your hair singed. Special attention given to aressing L,aaies hair. Cutting hair done with exquisite and artistic skill by the old University Barber of twenty years experience. The Singeing Machine is highly recom mended by scientists throughout the coun try.
