Broug-hton and wife spent part of the holidays with relatives and friends in Raleigh. We are pleased to note the chang-e in the internal arrangement of the library; it is a decided improvement. Aston each claim to have made a new " mash " during" the holidays, and it wasn't their finger, either. At a meeting" of the football-team on Wednesday afternoon Mr. Chas. Baskerville was again elected cap tain for the team of '95. As Mr. Baskerville will not play again he immediately offered his resignation which was not accepted and he wag requested to hold the position until time could be had to chose his successor. Oldham, familiarly known as "Old ie," captain of the base-ball team that is to be the champion of the South, will be the most important man in the University. Rev. J. L. Cunningham, the new presiding -elder of this district, held the first Quarterly Conference for the year last Sunday, and preached twice in theday jto lagre audiences. Rev. N. H. D. , Wilson, valedicto rian of the class of '86., now a mem ber of the North Carolina Confer ence, spent the holidays on the Hill, at the home of his wife's mother, Mrs. Mangum. He preached in the Methodist church on Dec. 16th. Twenty men reported at the gymnasium Tuesday to enter train ing for the Base Ball Team. A number of these are new men but all signed the pledge, and are ready for the regular work which began Wednesday. The class meets every day at 5 o'clock. Frank N. Cooke '96, has been ap pointed by Congressman Bunn to the cadetship at the United States Military Academy from the fourth district which will be left vacant in June by the graduation of Cadet Sills. He will stand his entrance examination in March. Student Aston put in a good part of his holidays decorating the church and " playing " Santa Claus for the Baptist Xmas entertainment.
